“Man-Splaning” Script readers

A Stage32 script reader told me that my pilot script about pharmacists was “unrealistic” and “over exaggerated”. And tried to tell me how the pharmacy industry worked lol. Mind you, I’ve been a pharmacist for 8 years and I have 16 years of pharmacy experience lol. The things script writers go through I tell you. I guess this is how women feel when they’re mansplained to haha

Stephen Folker

It's just one opinion, don't take it personal. I once had a script get coverage from another well known site and got a 'recommend' with a few notes on things I could consider doing to improve story. I took the bait and resubmitted again and the second coverage was less than appealing. Moral of the story, it boils down to one's personal taste, which may or may not be in one's favor.

Martin Reese

I agree with Stephen Folker.. Take what you can use and discard the rest. Something about the script didn't resonate with the reader. You still might want to take a step back and see what it might have been. I've had to do that in the past. I write genre scripts and have gotten so caught up in the world building that I forget it's more important that folks connect in some way with the characters. That's just my experience. Good luck.

any notes about craft, the actual writing on the page, story setups & payoffs, character goals & arcs, theme, your voice as a writer...

Wayne Turmel

I"m not mansplaining. I'm condescending and rude to everyone regardless of genre lol

Richard Buzzell

I would actually take this comment seriously. The reader doesn't know anything about pharmacy but that makes them representative of the audience, who will be in the same boat.

Cameron Tendaji

I’m not taking it personal. I just thought it was funny lol. There weren’t any comments about the story telling they just went into a long diatribe about the pharmacy industry and explained to me the updated technology

Cameron Tendaji

M LaVoie then technically “over exaggerated” and “unrealistic” shouldn’t be an issue then I would think lol

Demand a refund or request another reader for actual storytelling notes.

Kiril Maksimoski

M LaVoie is a spot on. I mean why would I ever pay to see a white coat guy prescript drugs to old ladies and chronically ill? Now imagine same guy having, say vampires or werewolves for customers...take my money, mister!

...I suppose you have no experience selling drugs to vampires, yes? Jesus guys, don't make entertainment so hard and then wander why haven't you broke in...
