Hey everyone, greetings from South Africa! Excited to connect with fellow indie filmmakers. Just wrapped up a feature about a young dancer navigating family drama and caring for her mom with dementia. It's my heart-and-soul project, weaving together a tale of love, dance, and sibling rivalry, with a rollercoaster of emotions. It's inspired by my own detour from writing to care for my mom. After 8 years in TV, this solo journey was tough but incredibly liberating. Now, I'm on the lookout for a cool producer to help me introduce my 'baby' to the world and make movie magic happen!

Hi Christa, welcome. Sounds like such a personal project, and I know those can be the hardest to get through. Congratulations on getting it done and good luck with the packaging process!

Hi Christa Biyela - congratulations on finishing your project! This takes me back to when my father passed of Alzheimer's some years ago. You are doing an amazing and courageous thing by sharing this story. I wish you all of the best in making your magic happen and sending a message of hope out to the world. Let us know your progress!

Leonardo Ramirez That's the beauty of incredibly personal projects. They're that much more likely to resonate on a deeply emotional level with other people.

Agreed Audrey Knox ! Even though mine are are fiction, they're all rooted in something personal in my life that serves the purpose of planting a seed of hope in someone else. I think that's what drives me as a writer as I'm sure it does Christa.

Leonardo Ramirez I'm sorry about your father. My mother passed in 2015 and it feels like yesterday. Thank you for the well wishes, will definitely share the progress.

Leonardo Ramirez I love the specificity of that mission. Without a deeper purpose behind your writing, it would be hard to find the motivation to get going when things are tough.

Thank you so much Christa Biyela and condolences to you. I know what you mean. It was ten years ago that he passed but I can still hear his voice clearly when he'd call me. Best advice he ever gave me was to practice anything I wanted to excel at in my mind even if I'm not physically doing it. I know you miss your mom but I know that whatever you accomplish will be because of what she placed in you.
You're absolutely right, Audrey Knox. There were even times when I tried to shake the mission because of the delay but I had to reach a point where I not only accepted both but embraced them. Btw, I love that you used the word "mission". That's what was hidden in my soul but most wouldn't understand. Hope is the mission. Thank you for seeing that.

Audrey Knox 'The deeper purpose' you are so right. In recent years, I've been writing telenovelas and dramas week after week, but deep down I was feeling empty. Then I did this project. I felt I was back to living my purpose again. Something I was missing so much. You're so right. Even when Act 2 almost killed me, I stuck to the mission.
