Producing : All the timings and who says what? by Terri Morgan

All the timings and who says what?

I've been working on plans and scripts for 'the show' (needs a better name, really it does). I now have two scripts about 40-45 minutes each. In some ways, it was so much easier to write the stories. I didn't have to do any real-world blocking. I could just put what was needed in the descriptions. With the scripts, I have to hear it. The actors need to know more about what's going on and the subtext. And I don't need 5 minutes of narrative. I don't. Really.

Tools with automated scene and character reports is wonderful. (Trelby) I still have to put what we are going to do on a schedule, but it's so much easier to see who needs to be online for which scenes. No point in asking for someone to take the time to be on a call when their character doesn't have lines in that particular scene.

It's one thing to be in the abstract, to think about what might be done or what could be done. Actually putting what is going to be done on paper, setting a calendar and scheduling times for things is not abstract. It's very much real world.

I'll have more on what I'm doing later. I'm still looking for several voice actors with theatre training or experience. I'll post about that later too.

Hey Terri Morgan - thanks for sharing. Thankfully if you are talking about scheduling and budgeting there are a lot of tools that can help you break down a script and put together a schedule and budget.

And if you're looking for voice actors I think it might be worth putting up some job postings on Stage 32 and see who responds. There are a lot of actors on the platform who would be excited to be a part of your project, I'm sure!

Hi Terri Morgan - have you checked out the Stage 32 certification courses on budgeting and scheduling? Here's a link to the Line Producer Master Certification track so you can see the courses - https://certification.stage32.com/#/curricula/2208538c-ed92-4213-8627-52...

Thanks Sam Sokolow! Just the course outlines are helpful to know what I should pay attention to. Seriously. The way you have things set up makes clear what is important and a sidebar. Very much appreciated.
