On Writing : Rom-Com Discussion by Ivan Scott

Rom-Com Discussion

Hello Stage 32 Community! My name is Ivan Scott and I am an Indie Author in Atlanta.

I have five RomCom/Romance books published and another to be released in October of 2024.

I would like to meet more authors/screenwriters/playwrights who produce RomCom stories, so please feel free to reach out so we can trade ideas, and also help each other in our current WIPs.

Thanks and keep those amazing stories coming!

Richard "RB" Botto

Good time for it, Ivan Scott. The Rom-Com market is red hot and showing no signs of letting up.

Ivan Scott

Thanks for the reply, Richard! I agree. Ever since Hallmark, and now American Family Channel, have hit the sweet spot with their RomCom Christmas movies, and other times and settings as well, I think it's a genre that is always looking for new stories. Both in books and on the screen.

Richard "RB" Botto

It's certainly had a renaissance, Ivan Scott, and it proves just how cyclical the business can be. No more than a few years ago, you couldn't get even a glance at a Rom-Com script. All it takes is a success or two and everybody wants one. ANYTHING BUT YOU alone has the entire town looking for something similar. Strike while the iron is hot.

Maurice Vaughan

That's encouraging for Rom-Com writers and all genre writers, Richard "RB" Botto.

Ivan Scott

Agreed, Richard! Thats why I have five books published and another one the way in October. After that, I have another that I'm writing that is under construction (Picture the Death Star in Return of the Jedi since that's what it looks like now...haha) Keeping my fingers crossed!

Richard "RB" Botto

Keep charging, Ivan Scott. More lines in the water, the better the odds.

Pamela Jaye Smith

Good point, RB, about the ups and downs of trends. My ROMANTIC COMEDIES Film Guidebook was published in 2017 by Michael Wiese Productions; we were all pleased to see a revival of the rom-com. Researching the book to find the best classic rom-coms and new ones, too was a most enjoyable project.

Pamela Jaye Smith

Ivan, congratulations on your accomplishments so far. May you have continuing and increasing success with your romantic comedies.

Richard "RB" Botto

I'm sure that guidebook is even more relevant today, Pamela Jaye Smith!

William Joseph Hill

That's cool that you've published five books already -- I myself write in the action/sci-fi space, but I am very impressed with that amount of work you've written!

Ivan Scott

Thanks, William! I appreciate your kind words. How is your writing coming along? I have always felt us Indies are all in this together so keep those books coming out my friend!
