Filmmaking / Directing : The Writer, Filmmaker and Social Responsibility by Geoff Hall

The Writer, Filmmaker and Social Responsibility

We've just launched a new video on the Seeing Rachel YouTube Channel about social responsibility. Over the coming months I'm looking to interview writers and filmmakers about the subject, to discuss what it is and what it isn't.

Whilst not every writer out there thinks this is their role, there are some of us who believe it is and so I want to gather around us, those who see they have it and want to know how to work with it and with those whose aim is not just to entertain, but compel and audience to action, on social injustices.

Please check out the video and then SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL to keep up-to-date on all things Seeing Rachel. Thanks, Geoff

Maurice Vaughan

Great video, Geoff Hall! I write my scripts to entertain and shine a light on real-life situations. I don't think movies have to be just one (entertain or shine a light on real-life situations). I always add a theme/moral message in a script, and sometimes I'll add mini-themes. I use characters, props, situations, etc. to represent themes.

Maria Baltazzi

Terrific Geoff Hall. So important to name and remind us of the power our words carry and the positive impact they can make. I agree that this is a responsibility as creators we should all be mindful of. Wonderful message.

Eon C. Rambally

Looks great Geoff Hall! Securing the mind from young is what our initiative and responsibilities should be about. Thankful seeing you and the team in this venture towards those goals of a cause for humanity's sake!

Sam Sokolow

Hey Geoff - this is a great idea and something that needs to be discussed all the time. If I can help lemme know.

Geoff Hall

Sam Sokolow hi Sam, thank you. I’d like to interview you, if that’s at all possible? And if you know of any socially responsible filmmakers out there, please let me know, so I can check them out. Thank you so much.

Sam Sokolow

Count me in, buddy. And will think on it.

Tom Lapke

This is great, Geoff. Also, this content aside, you really should look into audiobook recording. You have a great voice for it. Here is a webinar we did that might be of interest. https://www.stage32.com/education/search?term=audiobook&h=how-to-make-money-performing-audiobook-narration

Geoff Hall

Sam Sokolow thanks Sam, I’m really thrilled. I’ll contact you through the usually ‘edu’ email address. Cheers!

Geoff Hall

Tom Lapke oh wow, Tom. Thank you for the compliment. It’s something I’ve never even thought about, not even for my own novel!

Sandra Isabel Correia

Love how you became from introvert to extrovert :)) Thank you for sharing! Let’s spread the word!

Geoff Hall

Sandra Isabel Correia as ever, thank you Sandra!

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan cool, Maurice. I like that use of props, which in live-action I haven’t used so much. But in the animated series I have had lots of ideas about that, to have kind of subliminal messages of resistance. Animation seems to lend itself to that kind of thing.

Geoff Hall

Maria Baltazzi thank you, Maria. Yes, words have power!

Geoff Hall

Eon C. Rambally thank you, Eon. As always, we work without guarantees of course, but our intent to have an impact with our film, is rooted firmly in our hearts.

Eon C. Rambally

Geoff Hall, just to note! I've already began notifying many of my acquaintances about your film and what it entails along with my intentional involvement in it's cause and objectives. Have gotten lots of interest which includes some members of Law enforcement and authorities. Best!

Johan Tebelius

Great video Geoff Hall! I agree with Maurice Vaughan that movies can both entertain and shine a light on real-life situations. In my opinion, that’s what makes movies appealing. My motivation as a screenwriter and in life is to present questions to make people think beyond the obvious. That’s how I understand social responsibility.

Susan Kelejian

Geoff Hall this is right up my alley...as a playwright/director/producer for 30 years in theater, that's ALL I have been involved with. Last year my company launched a devised theater project about Women's Oppression through history and culture, which is currently being made into a doc. We consider ourselves artists/activists. I believe the power of film can do so much in creating wide spread positive transformation due to the nature of the medium. Currently writing an action thriller on trafficking. Would love to connect.

Susan Kelejian

Geoff Hall oh, wait! and I have a friend who has her documentary Equal Means Equal all over the place. I would be happy to connect you with Kamala Lopez https://equalmeansequal.com/team/ who is tirelessly working on equality as a film maker and activist

Geoff Hall

Eon C. Rambally as ever, thank you for this wonderful expression of community. I'm thrilled. Seeing Rachel has international wings!

Geoff Hall

Susan Kelejian Susan, thank you so much. I'll message you on the site, later.

Geoff Hall

Johan Tebelius Johan, I'm glad you liked the video. Agreed, entertain and enlighten is a great inspiration to guide our writing.

António Monfort

I saw the interview I was blown up. Love it.

Geoff Hall

António Monfort thank you, António. And there’s more to come!

Paul Rivers

Geoff Hall, you have helped the WGA keep AI writing obsolete for a little while longer.

Geoff Hall

Paul Rivers I wish I had that superpower, Paul.

Maria Restivo Glassner

This is awesome, Geoff!

Paul Rivers

Geoff Hall, we humans have our and other's stories to tell, even the difficult ones like 'Seeing Rachel'. Congrats.

Meanwhile AI waits at a blinking prompt.

Geoff Hall

Maria Restivo Glassner thank you so much, Maria.

Geoff Hall

Paul Rivers the key is to not let the prompt blink on its for too long, but keep working and not allow AI to seize an opportunity!
