Screenwriting : My November Write Club Goals and Week 1 Update: by Joo Lee

My November Write Club Goals and Week 1 Update:

I joined Stage 32 at the end of October so I'm a newbie to this community. My two goals for NWC are 1) to write 60 pages of my drama feature screenplay and 2) to catch up on 1-2 webinars each week for insights and inspiration. I'm a bit late posting my goals (yep, I was hemming and hawing) but I figure saying it out loud, so to speak, can only help me stay accountable.

My week 1 update: I'm on page 39 of my first draft and I've enjoyed watching 3 web recordings (Chris Moore/Exec Hour; Jason Lubin/Pitch Tank; Micah Brocker/Special). The webinars have all been fantastic, so far, so if you missed those, I recommend them. I'm so glad I joined this community!

Sending creative vibes to everyone!

Congratulations on getting to page 39, Joo Lee! You're almost at your goal. And congratulations on making progress with your second goal!

Nick Phillips

Over halfway there on the first one and exceeding the second goal. Well done Joo Lee!

Well done, Joo Lee! Major progress on that first draft of yours! The webinars here on Stage 32 are incredibly helpful and I find them relatable to my own work and understandable. I was on that pitch tank with Jason and my buddy, Nick Phillips, and it was a lot of fun. Hearing these well thought out pitches is a real treat. Keep up the great progress your making.

Joo Lee

Thanks John Mezes! I remember hearing you and Nick give actionable notes on the pitches. Great stuff - not just for the pitchers but lots of takeaways for me. I've been binge-watching the webcast archives this weekend -- pure gold.

John Mezes

Thank you, Joo Lee. I'm glad you found value in the pitch tank.

Welcome to the club. :)

Mary Helen Norris

I'd love to hear what webinars you're considering and what platforms you're using to access them!

Joo Lee

Hi Mary Helen Norris Sure! For NWC, I've just been accessing the on-demand webinars in the Writer's Room here on Stage32. This weekend, I watched the "Succession" pilot breakdown with Will McCance and a few others. I got a lot out of that one.

Off Stage32, I usually like to listen to podcasts like "ScriptNotes" and "The Screenwriting Life" while I'm doing chores around my home. :)

Mary Helen Norris

Joo Lee I love both of those podcasts too!

John Mezes

Two VERY GOOD podcasts, Joo Lee! Excellent choices for continuing your writing education.

I just wanted to thank everyone for your supportive comments during NWC. I just hit my goal of 60 pages (61 as of this morning) and have enjoyed watching 8 webinars this month -- they've been like fuel lighting my writing fire. Excited to keep the momentum going. Good luck to all of you and thanks again!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Joo Lee. You did a lot during November Write Club! Congratulations!

Joo Lee

Thanks Maurice Vaughan you're an inspiration!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Joo Lee. Thanks. I'm rooting for you to find a producer for your Drama screenplay! You could post it on your profile when it's ready. Producers search profiles on here for projects. Click the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner and select “Edit profile” in the drop-down menu. Scroll down to “Loglines” and click “Add/edit loglines” to the right of “Loglines.” You can also post your screenplay on your profile this way (near the top where it says “Add a Logline”): www.stage32.com/loglines
