It's "Introuduce Yourself" Weekend!

It's the last "Introduce Yourself" weekend of 2024!! Just to get my intro out of the way lol

I'm Brandy. I joined the Member Help team here at Stage 32 this past Summer. I'm a left-handed Aquarius and a stone-cold movie buff and music head.

That being said...I've decided to throw it back and kick it up a notch at the same time!

I previously posted a topic asking the community to describe your vibe in 5 movies. Now, I would love to see how you would describe your vibe in songs from movies. Soundtrack songs and original score pieces!

- "People Make the World Go Round" by The Stylistics (Crooklyn) - This one is near and dear to my heart because not only does it play during the opening credits of my favorite Spike Lee Joint, it's also performed by one of my late mother's favorite music groups. I grew up listening to The Stylistics with my mom and this was one of our favorites.

- Rock Steady by Aretha Franklin (Crooklyn) - Let's just face it. The soundtrack to Crooklyn is just an amazing study of soul music. Not to mention that it has an incredibly soulful original score by Terrance Blanchard.

- J.A.R. by Green Day (Angus) - this is the movie and the song that began by very deep fandom of Green Day...The subject of the story is also a huge fan of Green Day.

- Main Titles (Big Fish) - an amazing original score piece by my favorite composer, Danny Elfman, and it just feels like how I believe my life would sound in song.

- Go The Distance (Disney's Hercules) - Because it's me. My teammates who attended our holiday dinner recently will know what I mean lol

- The Imperial March (Star Wars) - one of my favorite pieces composed by the incomparable John Williams, and in my opinion, the greatest character theme of all time.

- The Dance of the Witches (The Witches of Eastwick) - another John Williams cut, and an amazing jaunt of dark whimsy

- Clair de Lune (Ocean's 11) - my favorite Debussy piece, and my favorite rendition is the version by The Philadelphia Orchestra in the remake of Ocean's 11.

- Day-O (Beetlejuice) - I'm glad that the filmmakers behind Beetlejuice included the work of singer, actor and activist Harry Belafonte in the film. It's almost as if Day-O and Jump in the Line became cult classics within a cult classic, and has put his work in front of several generations of new audiences. Plus they jam lol

- Flight to Neverland (Hook) - because duh lol

- Fade Into You (Empire Records) - beautifully romantic cut by Mazzy Star and this is movie was the first time I ever heard it. One of my all time favorite songs.

This could go on a lot longer. If you can't tell, I'm a music for movies junkie lol

Happy Holidays, Brandy Camille! Hope you're doing great! My vibe is relaxed, positive, and strange, so something mixed with music from Tim Burton's movies.

Merry Christmas Brandy Camille

I am also an Aquarius. In my mind now are the songs from the movie Moulin Rouge.

People Make the World Go Round could work for me, too. I’ve been carrying that tune around as long as your Mom. It’s funny, I start my day the same way every day. It’s almost Groundhog Day. I walk into my room and flip it all on and sit in my chair. I’ll do a 180 while things are booting up and now I’m in front of a mid ’70’s Fender Rhodes and I just doodle. If I’m sitting there on it for more than 30 minutes I’ll have a ’70’s flashback and my hands are gonna go:

Hi Brandy!

Happy Holidays! I love how you’ve mixed nostalgia, soul, and cinematic magic in your list! "People Make the World Go Round" in Crooklyn is such a dope nod to both your mom and the era—it really sets the tone for that film. I also have to agree—The Imperial March is such a legendary theme! I’d be curious to hear how your own writing is inspired by all this great music.

Looking forward to connecting more and thanks for being such a big help in my training with joining the community!
