Three Lists of Holidays

Hope everyone’s having a great holiday season! Speaking of holidays, writers use popular holidays in their scripts a lot – which is fine – but what about using other holidays? It could help your scripts stand out.

Here are some lists of holidays, including unusual holidays like Gorilla Suit Day, National Look Alike Day, and Official Lost & Found Day:

I loved this Maurice Vaughan but special the wacky funny and weird holidays, it’s so cool and creative :)) I used the holidays calendar when I was drafting the marketing strategy for my Brand and now you remembered me of that! Thank youuuu

You're welcome, Sandra Isabel Correia. Hope the lists help with your scripts. I already came up with some script ideas based off the holidays on the lists, and I have some scripts that I can rewrite so they're set during the holidays.

It’s really helpful Maurice Vaughan thank youuuu

You're welcome, Sandra Isabel Correia.

Göran Johansson

I have used holidays, or rather, other special days, in my scripts. To make filming simpler and cheaper. Many places are more or less empty in the middle of the day, on special days. So in my new screenplay, the climax is on Memorial day, in a building where there is normally a lot of people.

That's a great point, Göran Johansson! Smaller holidays and special days are less busy than big holidays, so less background actors to hire and less noise when filming.

Laquan Copeland

Happy holiday season to you too my guy! Using lesser-known holidays in scripts is such a great way to add originality and intrigue—Gorilla Suit Day definitely caught my attention! Thanks for sharing this resource; it’s a goldmine of inspiration for unique story elements.

You're welcome, Laquan Copeland. And you're right. Using lesser-known holidays in scripts is a great way to add originality and intrigue. Take Gorilla Suit Day. A writer could come up with a heist script. A zoo heist!

Bill Brock

Good point, Maurice. I’ve got an idea for Arbor Day. it’s the story of killer trees that go on a murderous rampage in a small, midwestern town, where the sheriff is the first victim, followed by his one deputy, followed by the school crossing guard.

Philip David Lee

I think the lesser known National days of the year can be used for comedic banter or a really ultra low budget film if you want to play it off as a comedy or horror film or even a comedy/horror film. Trying to turn it into a serious action film or award winning drama would take a top artistic and technical commitment from all parties for basically an IMDB credit.. Is it impossible? Find an investor group and go for it. If you keep it under $100K, you'll either have a quirky hit or a tax write off.

Maurice Vaughan

That's a wild concept, Bill Brock! Unique!

Great point, Philip David Lee. There are some lesser known holidays that could be used for a serious Action film or award-winning Drama though, like International Asteroid Day and Giving Tuesday. The budget for an action-packed International Asteroid Day movie would probably be higher though.
