Amazon Studios gave my horror screenplay Faeries a "consider" and offered to shortlist it. Here's why I said no... John August was nice enough to feature my story on his blog, so in an effort to let him keep some traffic here's a link to his site: http://johnaugust.com/2012/amazon-studios-and-the-free-option Find the complete article on my site: http://chipstreet.com/2012/06/01/amazon-studios-new-old-deal-for-screenp... Hi Chip - I just shared a link to your story on the LISG Facebook Fan Page.
@Dan -- thanks, I think so (so far). I hope it doesn't come across as an outright indictment of what Amazon might be able to accomplish with a new collaboration model, but hopefully it draws attention to what I see as flaws in its current state. @Howie -- that's great, thanks! I have to say my traffic is triple its usual rate over the past few days thanks to everyone being so great about sharing.
Ooh yes thank you! Your article is the most comprehensive review of Amazon Studios I've seen! Definitely gave me more aspects to consider.
When they made the changeover, I pulled my screenplay (which had been a finalist in a small screenwriting competition elsewhere) out. It's been more useful to me as a sample of my writing to show a producer what I could do. It got me hired on a new project anyway! I had only entered it onto Amazon after I found out you didn't have to make it open for collaboration from other members. I had a feeling they'd go back to that in one way or another. Just grateful they gave the option to pull the script out!
