How Do You Decide Which Stories Are for Streaming or Theater?

Hello everyone,

How do you know after reading a script if it's best for a streamer or to aim for theatrical, or to just upload to YouTube? Obviously quality is part of it, yet there are examples of low-quality films/shows that appeal to audiences in theater and streaming. Do you have a method for determining where to best exhibit your project?

Ashley Renée Smith!

Waverly Hampton III, I think it really comes down to understanding audience, format, and market positioning. Theatrical tends to demand a bigger hook, either a highly cinematic experience, an event-driven story, or a built-in audience. Streamers are often looking for content that can attract a niche audience or fill a specific genre lane. And platforms like YouTube or digital release can be a great fit for hyper-targeted content that builds community engagement over spectacle.

It’s also worth considering budget: the higher the cost, the more you’ll need a platform that offers strong monetization potential or wide reach.
