Hi, I'm Raghvendra Kumar a short film director and screenwriter from India, passionate about crafting grounded yet larger-than-life stories.
My work blends suspense, science fiction, and social themes, often exploring the intersection of faith, fear, and forgotten truths. I focus on emotionally-driven narratives that question the status quo-whether it's a bulb that absorbs light instead of spreading it, or animals taking revenge for ecological destruction.
Currently developing my latest project “The Shine of Darkness” (a bulb that absorbs light instead of spreading it), a sci-fi - drama that pits superstition against science with a uniquely Indian lens. Sharing a Frame of a footage for the community to have a idea about the Project.
Always open to creative collaborations, thought-provoking discussions, and connecting with fellow storytellers from across the globe.
Let’s build worlds together.

Raghvendra Kumar Hi Raghvendra, I love the colour tone of the image in the post. I also like the idea of a bulb, nice one. It's a great concept. The analogy could also be drawn across to people; that there are those who absorb the light of others, but have no light of their own.

Geoff Hall Thank you so much, Geoff! I'm really happy you liked the concept and the look of the post. I really loved the way you described it, about people who take others' light without having their own. That actually connects very well with the deeper message of the story. Would love to hear more of your thoughts, your perspective adds real depth!

Hi Raghvendra Kumar! I’m Ashley, Head of Community here at Stage 32, welcome! Your concept for The Shine of Darkness is incredibly intriguing. That image of a bulb absorbing light instead of spreading it is such a striking metaphor, and I love how you’re using sci-fi to challenge belief systems through a uniquely Indian lens.
If you haven’t already, I’d encourage you to jump into the Filmmaking Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/directing) or Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), I think your perspective would spark some great conversations.

Raghvendra Kumar oh, thank you, Raghvendra. Here goes:
I think what contemporary cinema needs is more poets, who work in metaphors and not messages. Messages after all are for ideologues; their facts are dressed up as truth rather than points of view. Poets are not ideologues, but masters of metaphor where the finger points elsewhere.
A chemist-philosopher, Michael Polanyi, said that with metaphors we need to not look at the finger, but where the finger is pointing. I think of film as being like that; it’s the finger. It should point people elsewhere, offering transcendence not simply immanence and a record of daily life.
Stories about everyday mundane lives bore me. I don’t want to be told how boring some people find their lives. Social Realism was a little like that for me. But poetic filmmakers take you on a journey far beyond the screen. I like to think of it like this; good storytellers don’t just give you a window, but a door and the door is a metaphor for the domain of the transcendent.
Light-bearing beings. In the Hebrew Scriptures, there is a character called Lucifer. His name means light-bearer and he rebels against YHWH, because he believes his light puts him over and above YHWH. What Lucifer didn’t realise was that the light wasn’t his own and that to rebel was akin to stealing someone else’s light. In life we are warned about Angels of Light; people who appear to have light, but it’s light they’ve stolen from others.
Your theme of stealing light resonates with me! I would encourage you to be the poet you were called to be.
