Introduce Yourself : Getting into Screenwriting by David Ling

Getting into Screenwriting

Hi folks, I'm very new here, have been working on a couple of scrips and shorts in my spare time and am hoping to break into the industry. Just thought I'd say hi.

I have studied creative writing a long time ago at school and i'm currently working in the creative industries but my passion is storytelling either through film, art or photography and want to break into screenwriting as well.

I know it is a hard nut to crack and I'm under no illusions that I will even make it but, in this world if you don't try you'll never succeed, much love. Dave

Welcome, David. Hope your script projects are progressing well. If you ever want someone to talk to about the industry or the craft, by all means send me a message and I will do my best to answer any queries or questions you might have.

Hi, David Ling. Welcome to the community and screenwriting. I’m a Stage 32 Lounge Moderator. I wanted to let you know that I moved your post from the Screenwriting Lounge to the Introduce Yourself Lounge since you're introducing yourself and promoting your projects. Let me know if you have any questions.

Stage 32 has a blog that'll help you navigate the platform and connect with creatives and industry professionals all over the world. Producers, directors, screenwriters, and more. www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-successfully-navigate-the-stage-32-platform-...

Stage 32 had its monthly Community Open House recently. You can watch the recording here (www.stage32.com/education/products/stage-32-s-august-community-open-house). It's free. It'll also help you navigate Stage 32 and connect with creatives and industry pros.

Stage 32 also has a blog for up-and-coming screenwriters I suggest checking out: www.stage32.com/blog/the-questions-up-and-coming-screenwriters-need-to-a...

"…been working on a couple of scrips and shorts…"

That right off the bat is a good sign you know what you're doing. The essential script stack, 'cuz like pancakes, one ain't enough.

What genres do you write in?

David Ling

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, Michael to answer your question I mainly write in comedy and drama formats. I have always loved to make people laugh (sometimes to my own detriment at times) but I also like to write shorts from my life experiences.

You're welcome, David Ling. I love watching Comedies! You could post your scripts on your profile. Producers search profiles for projects. That's how I sold four short scripts to a producer (plus networking). Click the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner and select “Edit profile” in the drop-down menu. Scroll down to “Loglines” and click “Add/edit loglines” to the right of “Loglines.” You can also post your scripts on your profile this way: www.stage32.com/loglines (near the top where it says “Add a Logline”)

David Ling Ah dramas nice. I am trying my hand at one now. And… it writes differently than action sci-fi! I'll tell you that!

So true, welcome aboard, David!

David Ling

thanks folks for such a friendly welcome, much appreciated, any advice always welcome.

I also suggest registering your scripts with the Copyright Office before posting them online, David Ling, but the copyright laws in your country might be different. You might not need to register your scripts.

Welcome, David! I found your message very sincere and inspiring. Like you, I started writing because storytelling felt like the best way to give meaning to what I see and feel. It’s true this industry can be tough, but your passion already shines through, and that’s what will make the difference. I’d love to connect and hear more about your projects and creative approach.
