Hello!
I'm Cole Lovell, a queer gender-fluid writer and producer who moved around a lot before settling in Nova Scotia, Canada.
About seven years I took some screenwriting classes through the Vancouver Acting School because, after almost a decade of sobriety I decided to get back to pursuing what brings me joy: writing and films.
Raised in a house where authenticity was shunned, and mental illness was rampant, I was 30 when I got sober. After a life of constant mental anguish, I stopped the war within and began to accept my queerness and genderfluidity. It was only then that I turned back to creation.
My writing is informed by decades of random jobs from auto parts delivery driver to personal trainer to hockey play-by-play announcer. Riding buses throughout the prairies with teenage redneck athletes was not such a safe space for a burgeoning queer.
What core moments in your lives informs your storytelling? I'd love to hear all about them and they don't even have to be traumatic!
Hope everyone is busy being creative today!
Hi, Cole Lovell. Congratulations on almost a decade of sobriety!!! I'm not sure what core moments in my life informs my storytelling, but you gave me something to think about. Thanks.

Congrats on surviving the dark years. Not all people do. Glad you have found your true self and rediscovered the joy of creating. I wrote a book about my dark years, being a caregiver to my cancer-stricken grandma. But it's not all sad. Lots of humor too. I approach my film scripts the same way. Dramatic tales sprinkled with comedy. Laughter makes it easier to traverse the darkness and reach the light.

I totally agree, Erik. I write a lot of darker material but always with those moments of humour or catharsis to bring light into the dark.

My now 20 year old son quit high school when he was a junior. It was a very tumultuous time in our house but with tremendous support from my wife I began to open my ears and actually listen more closely to what and why he was saying the things he was saying. I am not saying we have adopted the same outlook on life but his influence certainly set me on the path to quit my 30 year career to travel the world with my wife researching for the TV series Dixie Dynamite.
