Just a couple of days after Taylor Sheridan seemingly agreed to switch teams from Paramount to NBCUniversal, it's reported Sheridan and previous collaborator Peter Berg will co-write the upcoming Call of Duty action film (and Berg will direct). I guess Paramount (and Sheridan) are not THAT upset with each other ;)
Was thinking today about the types of industry story ecosystems Sheridan, and Steve Knight, and Tyler Perry, and prob a few more I'm not remembering are building - multiple IPs as writers, as producers, extensions of the story worlds, all the way vertically into studio partners/owners - and to think...
- for Sheridan it started with writing the pilot for Mayor of Kingstown
- for Knight it started with writing for a game show (that he co-created, Who Wants to be a Millionaire) and comedy shows
- for Tyler Perry it started with writing... a play, that eventually became a movie, that eventually...
I feel like these are great examples of the person working until it creates momentum, then momentum kinda starts to create itself. But it all starts with... writing.
And November promises to be a great month for that :)
Thank you Ashley for the November Write Club post: https://shorturl.at/OE0VT

Writing seems to be a common thread to success. I have my blackwing pencil now to get better at creating words.

You're right, Sebastian Tudores. It all starts with writing. I can't wait for the Call of Duty movie, and I'm excited about November Write Club! I have two goals for NWC so far.

I'm rooting for you to finish the first draft, Sebastian Tudores! My main goal is finish rewriting a feature script, and my second goal is outline and write a short script.

If they're really doing a Call of Duty movie, I hope it's based off the Modern Warfare trilogy (the originals, not the remakes).

Love this encouragement Sebastian Tudores - totally agree. I like how each of the writers you mentioned have a style running through them even if each piece is a bit different. That's what I'm going for in mine. All the best to you friend. Keep writing.

Beautiful reflection, Sebastian.
I often think about this — I’ve written across centuries, from medieval worlds and 1600s stories to modern emotional dramas. Yet nothing feels concrete in my career so far.
Still, your words are a good reminder that momentum starts quietly, page after page. Maybe the work is already building something — even if I can’t see the full shape yet.

Thank you Leonardo Ramirez - and, yes, nice observation about their styles. As Miles Davis is often quoted... “Man, sometimes it takes you a long time to sound like yourself.” What a pleasure to know that I'm on that journey with people like my friend :) onward!

"momentum starts quietly, page after page..." - beautifully said Loreana Valentini (and now a quote on my post-its by the computer ;) And you are right, every moment builds something, which is why it's so important to be present in each moment when we create, lest we build a structure with small vacuums.
And may I humbly offer that the day things feel 'concrete' on this ephemeral and exploratory career path we've chosen is the day you should be worried - until then, looks like you're doing everything just right. :)
how did you come by such a wide span of storytelling?

Thank you, Sebastian — that truly resonates.
I think the story often begins in silence — that’s the moment I choose the theme, before anything takes form.
From there, it becomes love, discipline, and hard work. And though there’s nothing truly “concrete” yet — just two short films and a few published books — I’ve also seen that other, more predatory side of the creative world.
But that tension isn’t new; even the early composers, back in the 1600s, had to navigate between inspiration and survival.
Maybe today we simply face a different kind of abundance — so much content, but less depth.
