So the next iteration of the Cubase DAW software has been released, version 15. I personally in a big cubase user, but have played around with many of the more popular DAW's like, Digital Performer, Logic, and started on Cakewalk when it was a bigger deal many years ago.
If you're a cubase user like me are planning to upgrade to this new version, and if so why? If you're not a cubase user what DAW do you use and what makes it special to your work?

I'm a total Cubase fan. I'll upgrade from 14 pro, because I'm kinda like that. I have no idea why, but hey, if it's an upgrade it's gotta be better, right?
However, truth be told. The obsessional upgrade thing ain't always a good idea. I used to upgrade DaVinci Resolve Studio every time they came out with a new iteration. That was all lovely until one of those upgrades totally screwed up a production and set us back by weeks!
I'm not sure what Cubase 15 has to offer over 14, -- personally, I'd love to know if anyone has tried it yet. And did it bollix up something you were working on?

I have only experience with Garageband (I know, lol!), how steep is the learning curve with Cubase or other better DAWs?

Well, I watched all the videos on steinberg.net about all the new stuff that's packed into Cubase 15 and I was reaching for the plastic faster than you can say, holy shit, that's like a 60 GB download! Anyway, I bought it, and I'm looking forward to it!

Ville Hilden , i've only played with Reaper and Cubase, But I can tell you, Cubase is a lot better supported and it's got so many tutorials and videos with it that it's pretty easy to use, certainly compared to something like reaper.

Ville Hilden The learning curve is a little steep but worth every penny of time spent. If you do a lot of midi recording like film composer stuff, which I'm assuming you likely do, then there is no DAW that's better, the midi editing capabilities are of the charts and the best in my opinion. There are other things that make it great for a film composers like track filtering / visibility management on large orchestral templates, Steinberg audio plugins and so much more... You can try it for free on a trial period basis, which I did before I bought it out right. Try it, it can't hurt..

Michael Whittaker use Cubase !
He’s shown grouping tracks, turning MIDI Tracks to Audio tracks below, and many other features.
He said you can add more than one video and move them around within Cubase !
Logic. I can make the Audio- which is nice -
Though I think I can only import one video into Logic, to my knowledge.
Looking into Cubase !!

Stuart Michael Thomas Yea, I'm kinda of with you there. The one thing that put me over the edge was the ability to set negative track compensation per articulation if you're using Expression Maps to switch articulations. This gave me that ability to go from a high track count in my template to about half or even a little less. I've grown tired of the 2000 track templets and managing them.

Kerry Kennard I saw you talking about using Logic, which I think is really good as well. My problem with Logic is, I use VEP and a couple of Slaves to server up the samples and Logic is a night mare when it comes to VEP. I tried a couple of different times to get it working with my sample setup and it was painful, for me at least. I have seem some guys on YouTube that have managed to make it work with VEP but I was not successful in the end.

about Tracks, ...
My very first competition 12 min. video I did had close to 32-36 tracks in Sibelius 7.5 !!
Wow, I did move it to Logic Pro, which did pretty good - all MIDI back a few years.
My volume throughout the video was a little louder, than needed, though I have learned a lot these past three years from other proj's I've been doing.
2000 tracks !! I know you need to have a template, though I can see how managing them, Mark.
It's been tough managing over 40-60 range.
From MIchael Whittaker's online class, he's suggesting making Audio tracks from the MIDI in
Cubase - which is nice. I think a good balance is great too. Some times it seems better to control the MIDI sound within track than the Audio part - though .. not sure best when it converts from the Bounce / final 2 track product. What are your thoughts regarding this, Mark ?
Or are your tracks / Templates have Audio and MIDI setups ??

Hey, Cubase 15 comes with a cute toy - Omnivocal Beta. Supposedly an artificial human voice that you can 'easily' programme to sing words/lyrics in real text. No phonics. Well, well, well... see for yourself with this emotionally stirring piece I just came up with using it.

Kerry Kennard When I was in school the think was and still is I think, but is changing because of the Expression Map technology, to have one midi track per articulation for all instruments groups. So once you get two or three string, woods, brass, perc, choir, etc. blares and you add all the inputs, a few VCA's to help balance all the different libraries out in the mix, you end up with a huge template. With the Expression Map stuff you can once again run one track per instrument for all articulations.. I like the single track per instrument workflow much better myself, even thought the template still has a lot of tracks it's not near the 2000 numbers. Some of the A list guys I've heard have 8 and 10 thousand with banks of VEP servers in a server racks. Crazy, but they have assistances to help the manage those behemoth templates.
Morgan Aitken Yea, the Omnivoice plugin is pretty cool for sure! I haven't messed with it yet to much I will say though.
