Introduce Yourself : Music and pics by Andy Alston

Music and pics

Hello everyone! Delighted to join this community. I’m a Glasgow-based songwriter, producer and musician, best known as the keyboard player with Del Amitri. Alongside touring and recording six Top 40 albums, I write and produce music for a wide range of artists — from jazz singers to chart veterans — and I’m currently developing a project based on songs written with Scottish prisoners during my time working in the prison system.

I love creative collaboration, strong storytelling, and the way a great performance can bring a song to life. Really looking forward to connecting with writers, musicians, filmmakers, and anyone who enjoys bringing ideas into the world.

Hello, nice to meet you Andy Alston

Music is a very important part of world-building alongside the story itself.

As a sci-fi writer, I like to imagine the music that would fit each world based on its emotions and atmospheric background.

Andy Alston

Hey Meriem, I write a lot of music. I have toured the world, had top 10 hits in USA, Oz, etc. I now write and record music that gets airplay on radio on classical, jazz stations etc around the world

Meriem Bouziani

That’s so awesome — congratulations to you on your accomplishments Andy Alston

Andy Alston

Music is tricky now. TV and films have money for new talent. Music does not. I have loads of ideas and now get stuff played on radio. I toured USA and Oz last year and have some shows coming up at Xmas, but that is all nostalgia ....i have more ideas about theme music or games etc

Sometimes, the forum doesn't want to play ball and put my whole message in... what was meant to follow was:

DEL AMITRI?! Shut the front door — hi Andy!

I'm a screenwriter pulling together my slate (just entered the Channel 4 Screenwriting Course - interview week coming up)

And here's the spooky coincidence: one of the projects I'm developing is a Glasgow-set dark comedy thriller about a washed up covers band who get swept into a drug-fuelled bender with their groupies... and spiral into obsession, delusion and a very literal firestorm. It's grim, funny, unhinged - very Glaswegian energy.

Given my mum's side are Glasweigan-Sicilians - and you being an actual Glaswegian - it felt totally up your alley. Would love to connect!

Andy Alston

Yes I did long ago write music for STV TV adds which were 10", 20",30" and liked doing that. I now write at lot of classical style filmic things that get played regularly on https://classicalfmradio.com/ and other track that get played on other stations. Where do you live??

Alistair Wales

Hi Andy, it’s great to meet you, your work is inspiring! I’m a singer who writes songs and I would love to meet with you to discuss projects you’re working on. I’m also an actor and producer. Would you like to meet for a short call?

Andy Alston

Yeah sure thing

Andy Alston

How would that work?

Emilia Maria

Not sure if you were responding to me Andy Alston but I'm in Kent, so the other end of the Isle! Born and bred Southerner, I'm afraid! But must get up to Scotland in the New Year.

hi Andy - this sounds really interesting: "currently developing a project based on songs written with Scottish prisoners"

Maurice Vaughan

I just listened to The Book of Love, Andy Alston. It's incredible! I really like it!

Andy Alston

I have an album of these. I have an album of classical music, one of jazz music, several by famous singers. It is what to do with all this creation

Maurice Vaughan

I subscribed to your Spotify, Andy Alston. Looking forward to listening to more of your music!

Andy Alston

Spotify is where to put stuff, but it is nearly criminal as there is no money from it

Susi de León Campo
