A method that helped me a lot in screenwriting / story structure

Hello,

there are some people who have great ideas or concept for stories they write them in scripts and some are having a hard time trying to break down the story structure they made , what I mean is that when you have the general concept or idea of your story and the characters ,sometimes its gonna be a bit hard to start the journey of your characters and you don't know how to make them reach the end of the story, but I have this method idk if its only me or some others are using it, I call it "start from the end".

so basically, once you have the characters written down and the core lore, you start imagining the "ending's ending" straight from the start, this includes showing the aftermath, who is there (and who couldn't make it to the ending),how did they change, where are they now , how did the environment got affected and changed after the events and showing any cliffhangers you got.

then you go back in time to the "ending's beginning", this is where you start writing down the climax of your ending, the big plot twist, who changes during that and who finally reaches his fate(death, win, loss) so basically its like the final battle or fight before the aftermath.

once all that is written or just in your head and you are sure you can write down your vision so anyone can visualize it, you start going backwards from the end to the beginning of your story, like the very beginning . then highlight every important event you made.

and finally, you can write down it as a script or a book, but try making as much versions you can and refine it until you feel like its right.

this helps me a lot, what other methods you use?

Hi, Alyazin Alriyami. I've heard of writers starting from the end. I've thought about doing it. Thanks for sharing your method. It'll help when I start from the end.

I use Microsoft Word to outline. I make really detailed outlines for feature scripts and TV shows. I come up with the logline, the theme, character bios, the world, story beats, twists, etc.

I use Microsoft Word highlighters in my outlines to make it easy to find things. The main colors I use are yellow, blue, green, and pink.

Yellow for things I'm not sure about, things I need to research, and things I need to finish later.

Blue for scenes.

Green for dialogue.

Pink for things I won't use. I highlight these things instead of getting rid of them because I might end up using them.
