The Fashion Hub Female Model Feature ----- Ashley Jermaine One often dreams of their ideal occupation at a young age, and hope to achieve it at some point in their lifetime. One fashion hubber, however, visualized her dream into life early on in her career. Joining us over a year ago, Ashley Jermaine graced us with her presence. As a model and an actress based in the Greater Boston area, she has been represented by CLICK Models of Philadelphia since she was nine years old, and recently signed with CLICK Models of Boston. With her modeling and acting career flourishing at every step, she often contributed to The Fashion Hub with her words of wisdom. In continuation to do so, we are honored to highlight her as our Female Model Feature. Despite launching her modeling career at an age of nine, she dreamt of modeling professionally since five years old. Four years later, with the support of her parents, they accompanied her into a Boston agency and received a contract upon departing. But the increasing child talent and limited opportunities in the Boston area had its share of challenges. Nevertheless, she embraced each experience presented to her with humility, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude - even with those that involved rejection. With passion and enthusiasm carrying her forward, she pursued her modeling and acting career as a hobby. In her spare time, she dedicated it to auditions or working with photographers - many of which started off as TFP (Time for Print), stock photography, student films, or behind-the-scenes with the director and students of the New England School of Photography. Without complain, she took each of these experiences as an opportunity to build her portfolio and better her modeling skills. In time, little by little, her investment, passion, and talent surfaced as key fashion members took notice of her. From Click Models of Philadelphia to Click Models of Boston, each region embraced her portfolio and look. Since then, she has been contacted by two New York City agencies interested in representing her, one of which is BMG ModelsGlobal Management. In addition, she has received a 'by request' audition invitation for a feature film (starring Steve Carell) and a meeting with the owner of Calico for print work at CLICK this past week. Needless to say, Ashley's modeling career has increasing grown, and helping her along the way were these tips! (1) LIVE IT & PRACTICE! Take each and every opportunity that presents itself. When asked if you would shoot TFP, take the opportunity, and work it like it is a paying gig. The more practice, the better you become. (2) BUILD YOUR PORTFOLIO! It is important to have a set of 'polaroid's' - non-professional shots of with a clean face (no make-up) of front, profile, and shoulders up. Do not put inappropriate photographs into your portfolio. Do not post or include 'cell phone shots taken by you while standing in front of a mirror.' Do not have your photos so retouched that they appear blurry. Your portfolio, in other words, is your business card. Showcase your talent so when an agency views your portfolio, you've proven that you have what it takes and the look that appeals to a variety of clients. (3) BE ON TIME AND DON'T COMPLAIN! (4) GAIN EXPOSURE & NETWORK! There are resources all around you! Internet! Free sites, such as Models.com allow a free three picture portfolio, and agencies do take notice! Boston Casting, LDI Casting as well! Check agencies for online submission, and submit. Together, these tips and skills guided her towards success as a model, and hopefully will assist our aspiring models as well! Until next time, fashion hubbers, I leave you with a quote by Ashley Jermaine, "Success is achieved one snapshot at a time. Success doesn't just happen. Sharing experiences, networking with actors and models, and doing what you love transforms you by building friendships and experiences while you try to make an impact on those around you, and go the distance to make a difference.
