I’m a big fan of fantasy that leans into strong characters and immersive worldbuilding. Some standouts for me are Pan’s Labyrinth, The Lord of the Rings, and Spirited Away, with TV favorites like Dark, The Sandman, and Arcane — especially when fantasy is used to explore identity, power, and the unseen rules shaping a world.

I, too love LOTR. But I consider it also to be one massive gay love story. Not that I mind that, but the absence of women has driven me to fantasies and romantasies written by women with badass FMCs.

I would love to work in the writer’s room of Fourth Wing (in development), or Quicksilver or any of the Sarah J Maas’s series when they finally announce their deals.

Hi Lina Coutinho, I grew up on The Lord of the Rings and I really loved the Peter Jackson trilogy from 2001-2003. I don't write fantast though, more into sci-fi, but I do read about and study the genre to a degree since there are often very similar storytelling techniques in both sci-fi & fantasy.

One of my favorite fantasy TV shows is Stranger Things for its world-building and emotional depth, and Avatar for its epic fantasy elements and immersive world of Pandora. Honestly, I gravitate toward shows like Rick and Morty. The fantastical worlds are mixed with multiverse concepts, dark humour, and existential themes. I’m drawn to fantasy that questions reality rather than just escaping into it

I love LOTR, Spirited Away, Hunger Games. I like fantasy and romantasy books--do you read them as well? So many good ones, and even more not so well written, but worth reading anyway. What are your fantasy films and books?

Lina Coutinho Hi Lina! I love, love "The Wheel of Time", read the books, saw all the seasons until it got cancelled...have theories on why, but they did a pretty amazing job. Also, adore "The Rings of Power", have a classmate in it who I gush about, he's in the main cast, he's from Puerto Rico...super proud of him. And, one more, "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End", a Japanese manga series on Netflix. It's so beautiful, the art is breathtaking, and it's a delicate, inspiring story, a nice break from blood, gore and rage.

Lina, your stories sound fascinating! I love how women are taking charge of fantasy films/fiction and more.

Love fantasy! Going into made up worlds but bring real things we all face and feel every day with it. I love movies LOTR, Maleficent, Harry Potter, and Wonka(if that counts).

Hey Lina Coutinho , I loved the LOTR ( except the two towers ) when it came out and of course Harry Potter (the last few films more than the first two ).
