Read a Good Book Lately? : Writer/Blogger/Reader by Jenine Silos

Writer/Blogger/Reader

Hi everyone...I'm a new self-published author...I've just completed my book...is there anyone who knows where to find a publishing company that cost you nothing? Or is there any? Thanks.

Alison McLean

I went to local printer in NZ and he prints to order and that was only costings is that of printing @ easyprint.co.nz ... my book has intuitively manifested itself in a way of a working book so has simplistic raw unedited workbook look for cover thought he has printed a few books for self published authors

Jenine Silos

I've checked the site...don't know how it process though. Anyway, thanks for the info!

Alison McLean

Email them and see if it suits both parties :)

Jenine Silos

oh i see....haha. I'll try that.

You can upload your finished project to Amazon's self publishing company http://creatspace.com for free, if you don't take part in their editorial or marketing services. I have a book available through them and it was a good experience. Here's a link to the books page, just to give you an idea of what you'd get through the service. http://www.absenteeparentbook.com

Jenine Silos

thank you for the details....but do I also need to avail their editorial service before i can publish the book via createspace?

LinDee Rochelle

Hey Jenine - Scott's note about Create Space is right-on and Amy's suggestion for Amazon's ebook publishing on Kindle is great too. You do need to be at least a little tech savvy, but let me know if you need some assistance--I can give you some pointers. Been in the publishing industry a long time and indie publishing is definitely more profitable. And CONGRATS on your new book--it's way more difficult to write a book than many people realize.

Hey Jenine, You don't have to use their editorial, marketing or cover design services. I didn't use any of them. Like LinDee said, you do have to do the leg work yourself, but if you don't mind all the proofreading and formatting yourself it's a cost effective way to get your story into the hands of people. They even provide the templates to place your text into, to make formatting easier. Amy was also exactly right about KDP to make your work available as an e-book. If you decide to go with createspace they have a button at the end of the process that says also make available in ebook. You push it and they do the reformatting and put on Amazon for Kindle for free.

Try lulu.com, I have greate experience with them.

Jenine Silos

THank you very much guys for the information....I'll try createspace for sure! I initially thought that I need to pay for editorial services....but thanks Scott for clearing that out.

Just one more thought about editing your book though, Jenine -- I strongly urge you to have it professionally edited somewhere, if you haven't already. Like Scott said, it isn't required in order to publish with Create Space, however, to compete favorably with the best books online, professional editing is a must. Yes, I'm a tad biased :-) 'cause that's what I do; but as an author too, believe me I know even an editor needs an editor! heehee

Jenine Silos

I see. Thanks LinDee! I think you are really right about that.

MJ Brewer

Jenine is correct.... CreateSpace is the way to go and costs nothing to get started. It is wise to consider having some money to keep the back from being a blank white page... but other than that, they do a fantastic job. When you submit your work, you need to hold onto the title or surrender it to them (and this costs as well) and the percentage they take compared to Amazon and Kindle is something you should take into consideration. (Kindle has the best deal there) Good luck and remember to ALWAYS get a copy of your book and read through it three times before you approve it for sales. The extra time will be worth a perfect work!

As a self-published author, I also suggest a professional editing service. Many of us who have had success are also willing to look over your works and provide advice. If you're interested, contact: olddogliterary@gmail.com

I pub with Lulu-seven books worth now. I have found that their conversion process is a lot easier to use. Also, from time to time, they will format my books into ebooks (not just the pdf file kind, but the other).
