How many here are NOT familiar with the strong foundation that is at the heart of 99.9% of all classic movies, stories, jokes, sitcoms, short films, cartoons, etc.? It's called "the 3-act play" structure, which is a great way to "emotionally hook" your audience. It's not just "a beginning, a middle and an ending", but, first, a "set-up" (here we learn why we should actually care about the main character, who goes about their life, happily pursuing what they like - UNTIL...), then the "conflict" (what gets in the way?), then the "resolve" (do they get what they want and pay a price? Do they get something else better?)
