I have produced a short which is screening in December at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival and looking to get some local press in the LA area before we go. Does anyone have connections or suggestions? (We have a complete press kit and have won some awards.) Thanks!!

The Los Angeles area press is typically uninterested in short films being screened at the 20 or so local festivals every year. I don't have any connections but you could try the LAWeekly, the Boulevard Sentinel or the Larchmont Chronicle. The Weekly has a large circulation but I rarely see any articles on short films playing in local festivals. You are late for the weekly papers but you can still try.
Thanks Rik!!

I would suggest you to go to "twitter" and search Hollywood Independent Film Festival or Local Press in LA/Cine Press in LA. You will find people and tweets about the same where you can directly join the conversation and start engaging. It is very time as well as cost saving. Hope it will help. Remember always: Water cannot be stopped by mountains. Good Luck.
Thanks Chris and Mehul!!

Almost everyone is press these days.... Anyone with a blog that does movie critique will fit your bill.
Many thanks to W. Mark Dendy for writing an article for "Just Grate"!! Hopefully we will get more attention soon!

There is a news wire service for the LA / So Cal area only called City News Service. www.socalnews.com Every radio and TV station pulls this service (called the Budget) and decides on their daily coverage at 4 AM. If you are not on the Budget, you will not get covered. You need to send a news release to them way in advance. Now your problem is how do you make your screening an event worth covering.
Zach, Thanks so much for the info!! That was a connection I did not have. Just sent out the press release. Crossing fingers for now!!
