CASTING CALL FOR TULANE STUDENT SHORT FILMS Shooting is scheduled January – March 2013 Open casting call on Sunday, December 2nd from 1-4pm 7041 Freret Street (the Digital Media Production building on the corner of Audubon and Freret on Tulane’s campus) BRING HEADSHOTS AND RESUMES. Compensation for all films will be a DVD with footage for your reel and meals while on set. If you are a Tulane Student majoring in theater you may receive 1 credit for appearing in a film. Transportation to and from set is a possibility but not guaranteed. GOODNIGHT MOON Director: Jason Winikoff Contact: jwinikof@tulane.edu Synopsis: This dramatic short, titled “Goodnight Moon”, is inspired and loosely based on the classic children’s novel of the same name. In post 9/11 America, Marine reserve and family man Stephen Damber is being deployed to Afghanistan tomorrow. We watch a father say what may be his last goodbyes to his children. He must put on his best act as he makes these just seem like routine goodnights. Cast: Stephen Damber – (30s–40s) LEAD: A MALE to play the hero of the film and father of the Damber family. A Marine, Stephen is in great physical shape. He is a well- respected and resolute man who demands respect in the most pleasant and loving fashion. Everything he does is done with family and others in mind. Karen Damber – (30s–40s): A FEMALE to play the mother of the Damber family. Karen is loving, sweet, and the ideal mother. Nothing means more to her than family. Emma Damber – (15–18): A FEMALE to play the protective oldest child of the family. She is uncharacteristically distant, dismissive, and bitter in this film due to the current situation. Zachary Damber – (8–12): A MALE to play the energetic and lovable boy of the family. His innocence and great personality make him likeable to all he meets. Sonja Damber – (50s–70s): A FEMALE to play the caring, loving, and calming grandmother of the family. MAGIFILM (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Wonder and Whimsy) [working title] Director: Ethan Gordon Contact: ethanmgordon@gmail.com Synopsis: A fusion of Magic and Film, the plot focuses on a writer who has a mental breakdown. The film is a surrealist piece; think Terry Gilliam directs The Prestige. Cast: King Lowry- (20-30) MALE LEAD: A down on his luck writer who feels crippled by his inability to externalize his creative imagination. He is diminutive externally, but his expressive body language suggests a far more complex world inside. His mental breakdown will give the actor a chance to explore wild emotions and a strange physicality. Jack Diamond- (20-30) MALE: King’s best friend and housemate. He is genuine and caring and thinks of King like his brother. He is more extroverted than King, yet he shares the same creative flair that King seems to be hiding. Jack “Ace” Club- (20-30) MALE: Friend to Jack and, to a lesser extent, King, he is the extrovert of the bunch. He and King tend to butt heads due to how dissimilar they truly are. He is calm and confident, often deliberately antagonizing King. Joker- (20-30) MALE: Joker is (perhaps?) a manifestation of King’s subconscious. He is a mysterious character, at times he seems to be trying to help King and at times he seems to be antagonizing him. He is the film’s magical element; his “lessons” are mostly demonstrated with a deck of cards. THE KINGDOM OF SOMETHING AND NOTHINGS (Working Title) Synopsis: The Kingdom... is a fairy tale for the 21st century, set in an alternate, digital universe. Ben is soon to become king. Spurred on by his sister’s insatiable curiosity, the two siblings escape their sheltered lives of royalty and embark on a quest to discover the secret truth that underlies the existence of their kingdom. THE BOAT MAN MALE VOICE ACTOR WITH LOW, RASPY VOICE THE FATHER 50-75 MALE, ANY; A kind man of great wisdom who has a dark secret in his past. Gersploosh! Director: Michael Goetz SYNOPSIS: Funk/rock band, Gersploosh! gets a shot at the big time after training a monkey to play lead guitar. Michael, the rhythm guitarist and monkey trainer, has stars in his eyes when he signs the band to a major label. However, his unquenchable desire for stardom, and jealousy of Mr. Snuggles, the monkey, forces him to juggle fame, friends, and feces. CHARACTERS: Michael 20-25 year old male, Caucasian (preferred, but not necessary); good-hearted but spiritually wayward guitarist of Gerploosh! who’s desire for fame warps his values. Must be able to play guitar, preferably in the style of funk/rock. Having one’s own guitar and amplifier preferred, but not necessary. PRINCIPAL ROLE Shel Steinstein 30-60 year old male, Caucasian/Jewish; Fast-talking, impatient, sleazy record mogul that signs Gersploosh! to his label. Is always busy on an important business call, and has only one thing on his mind: money. Having a suit to wear is preferred, but not necessary. PRINCIPAL ROLE Mr. Snuggles 20-25 year old male, Caucasian (preferred, but not necessary); A monkey from the Amazon rainforest. Must be able to do monkey walking, jumping, howling, hooting impressions. Must also be able to play guitar, preferably in the style of funk/rock. Having one’s own guitar and amplifier preferred, but not necessary. SUPPORTING ROLE Johnny 20-25 year old male; Level-headed bass player of Gersploosh! Must be able to play bass, preferably in the style of funk/rock. Having one’s own bass and amplifier is NECESSARY. SUPPORTING ROLE Dan 20-25 year old male, Caucasian (preferred, but not necessary). Seldom-speaking drummer of Gersploosh! Must be able to play drums, preferably in the style of funk/rock. SUPPORTING ROLE Katie 20-25 year old female, any nationality. Has that superficially affable talkshow host voice, but is teetering on a mental breakdown from frustration with his job, and the fact that his wife cheated on him with the talk show bandleader. In his absence his wife, Mindy, has developed a complex relationship with her next-door neighbor and high school friend, Hannah. The film traces the couple’s struggle to return to normalcy amidst difficult circumstances. Mindy 18-25 year old female; white; She is pretty but not strikingly beautiful, sweet but also willing to do what is right for her even if it is at the cost of another. She is a small town Louisiana girl with big dreams and high hopes of being an artist in the big city. She is naïve but also cunning. Please dress in the style that you wear everyday. Must be ok with partial nudity and homosexuality. Jordan 18-25 year old male; white; He is handsome, All-American military type. Fit, short hair (or willing to cut it), sweet and smart. He is slightly stand offish but inside has a heart of gold. If you have your own military clothes please wear to the audition. Hannah 18-25 year old female; white; Hannah is free spirited and does not seem like she grew up in a small town. She longs to travel but does not have the money. She is highly intelligent but a little bit astray on her path. Must be ok with partial nudity and homosexuality. Fred 18-25 year old male; white; average looking military type, friendly, fit, short hair (or willing to cut it). If you have your own military clothes please wear to the audition.
