I am an independent filmmaker. I understand the other aspects of filmmaking well, I just don't fully understand how to secure distribution for my independent film, LOVERBOY. We were the recipients of Best Florida Feature Film at the Freak Show Film Festival this year as well as an official selection in quite a few other festivals. We recieved a lot of press and a lot of praise but I was under the impression that festivals were the best way to get in front of distributors and so far that has not been the case. Does anyone have any advice for me? The film is called "LOVERBOY." We have cleared all music and talent rights and are ready to find a distributor. I found this article very interesting: http://www.filmmakingstuff.com/selling-your-film-without-selling-your-soul/ The guy who wrote it doesn't have as many credentials as I'd like, but he seems to have some experience and he makes a lot of good points. This is another good one: http://www.filmmakingstuff.com/confessions-of-an-afm-distributor/ They are both geared toward self distribution, which I think in this day and age makes a lot more sense than it used to.
First you have to decide what type of distribution you want, do you want theatrical? Online? Television? What is your goal and what are your production values? If you are interested in online distribution, I might be able to help. message me.
I would always put the trailer to the film front and center, or else you've lost people's attention and they keep scrolling down.
Thank you for the tip Mr. Giambrone
Submit it to other festivals (appropriate to the material), then start selling it on your website and mass covering on social media wherever you can to build a following.
Hi Erica, Kaleigh Group Entertainment is now accepting films for distribution. We have traditional and Out of the Box distribution channels. We get paid commission, so there are NO up front fees. I would like to discuss this with you. Contact me if you are interested.
