Hello! I am looking for some wisdom from the experienced. I am looking to put together a (stage) play, and renting a facility. The total cost to rent the space for a week is roughly $650, with 5% of ticket sales going to the venue. (I am rehearsing in a separate location at no cost.) My question is, how do I go about gathering financial support to do this? I have directed a number of shows, and been in many more, so I am familiar with how the creative process goes, but have never touched the business side of things. ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME!
I've never done anything with the business side of things. But the first thing that comes to mind is KickStarter.

Hmmm...one thing you try is to set up an online donations page where you can outline your stage play and try to generate interest. Then people can donate small amounts that would hopefully equal the amount you need for at least 1 week. There are also small corporate grants you can apply for. Most major corporations have funds set aside for "charity" or "small business" projects and they often donate to independent artists. Also, have you tried talking to the owners/managers of the venue to see if they will cut a deal with you? A discounted price if you guarantee say %10 of the door instead of 5, or if you guarantee at least a 2 week rental? they are sometimes willing to do that, especially if they are a bit slow at the moment. How much time do you have to generate your funds?
I have three months. So in a way, there's time. But on the other hand, this project is approaching very quickly.
Really, that's not much time at all. It goes by very fast. Corporate grants might take too long then...try, but you may not get it in time if even granted. I would say private fundraising. Using a website, hell having a car wash or bake sale. Sounds silly, but those things bring in cash, and since you're not looking to raise 20k or anything, it would be your best bet. Especially a combination of a few of those things
