The Poe Project is a creative filmmaking contest and writing competition based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Presented by the Capital Film Arts Alliance (CFAA) & the Sacramento Public Library. http://goo.gl/VhMrz This has been great fun so far. Lots of people looking for cast/crew. Some people with scripts looking for producers and/or directors. The person submitting the film does have to reside in Sacramento, Placer or Yolo counties, be a member in good standing of the CFAA and have a library card from one of the above counties. They have $3000 in prizes so far. The major competitions are for short (<13 mins) films or feature-length screenplays. The short film contest is broken down into several categories. There prize for the best short film is $750! They even have prizes for best college student film and best high school student film. This is a great community event. The people are very helpful and friendly, and not very competitive at all given that it's, well, a competition. Check us out!
Maybe you could start a similar thing out there, with a local library or something? If you go to the link I posted you can see more about it. Just as exciting as the film festival is everyone reading the same works, too, and discussing them. I wish you were here, too, I could use some help with storyboards!
Thank you Karen, I just may take you up on that. If I can ever get to my storyboards. Networking is exhausting. :-)
That sounds interesting. I'm a big fan of Poe, he is my favorite poet & I've been reading "The complete tales and poems of Edgar Allan Poe". I'm also a poet/writer and I love Poe's work.

Too bad you're not here in Sacramento, you'd love it. Just for fun you might want to check out CFAA The Poe Project on Facebook. There's a Poe historian there and he's always posting good info. Great job on the crying mother audition by the way, hope you got the part!
