Working within the development industry within London filmmaking leads me to discover some really great events and sessions around the city, usually free! SO it makes sense to share these with any UK- based film fanatic/ professional. Virgin media Shorts are hosting a day event of panels and Q+A’s for students and filmakers alike on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th May from 10am-4pm at Rich Mix in London, which focuses on the question: From the perspective of building a career – do you need festival awards, or does a successful online film get you noticed by the industry? There is a fantastic schedule across both days on getting your short noticed. My personal pick of the bunch is the first session on "Putting Your Short Online" chaired by Josic Cadoret, Talent Development Coordinator, ensuring the successful development and delivery of shorts schemes at Film London. The event is FREE to attend although registration is required through the http://www.virginmediashortssessions.co.uk/ website.
Leads me to thinking about the great divide that there is now between the festival circuit and online screening. A fine line that is different for every film- if you're screening at a festival or applying, please think twice about online screening as it lessens your chances dramatically!
Hi Jacqueline! If you screen online first, the possibility of being picked up at a festival is lessened, but your profile can be raised. Some festivals are more picky then others, but that's the general rule
Hi Jacqueline, yes indeed! Some will not even let you mention in blogs etc that you have a film screening until post-festival. It just depends on the festival- always best to make sure so you aren't pulled out of one!
You are very welcome! Lovely speaking with you!
