How do we check the legitimacy of the companies that post there? I've fired off a bunch of emails asking who I should address my query letters to. If they don't respond...(which a few haven't) - do I assume they are not legit? Or just overworked? Does addressing your email to a specific person even mean anything anymore on the Internets?
That is so true.
Hmmm. I see what you mean. I'll try that. Thanks for responding.

Most legit companies are going to ignore unsolicited queries.
Hmmm... why would they give their email on the writer's gigs pages then? http://networkisa.org/writing-gigs.php If you're telling me that most companies do not operate via email, should I stop wasting my time with this site (and tell the friend who pointed me to it the same)?
Number one, you're located in the wrong area for that gig. Number two, there's a particular method for contacting real production companies, which involves having a lawyer or a rep. Three - they're probably looking for script samples from that particular ad. If you're not reading clearly enough to follow directions, why hire you from the thousands of writers submitting who are?
Ummm...if you click on the link, you'll see that it leads to a general page that has all gigs, not just the one that shows up in the thumbnail above. I am asking how to vet the legitimacy of companies that post on this site since there does not seem to be any checks and balances in place to do that for me.
Research. What projects have you heard of that they've done? What people are involved and what have they done?
That's a tough call, sometimes people are very busy and sometimes not responding is a way to check to see if YOU are legit. :) This internet is a tough place to be. It seems that 50% of what's on the internet is fake. At the same time some people are deemed as fake but are real. It's a big network with no restraints, sort of, all of us are going to have to act like a sifter to get what we want.

Thanks guys for the honest advice. I'm really grateful to be connected to people that know more about this stuff than me.
