Does anyone have any good recommendations for a digital download platform. I will be shooting a film in the spring and want to make it available to people via a digital download. This will be a perk from the Indiegogo campaign I will be doing. Any help is appreciated.

Hey John, that's an excellent question. Vimeo on Demand is too expensive in my view. Many VOD services also offer digital downloads. Here is a great overview of the top ten video-on-demand services for independent filmmakers, as indie film distribution: http://bit.ly/19NswKy And here is NYU research on traffic stats for V.O.D services: http://bit.ly/Hu8kmv

John...while we at dark matter are solid vimeo customers i'm going to honor Genevieve's input and have the subject researched...if you can wait a bit i'll be more than happy to share the results with you....just so that i'm clear exactly what is it you are looking to do (that way i'll make sure it's covered in the research model).

Hi John Hidalgo, Check out https://www.box.com Also www.sendlargefiles.com And there are sites that operate in the 'CLOUD' that will host your files and permit rapid downloading speeds for your clients. Do you know anyone with a "SERVER" and a high-speed Internet connection, and would permit downloading from it for a time? A lot of 'WebMasters' have their own Apache / Linux servers in their homes! Respectfully, Nicholas Chase - producer / director / writer etc

Microsoft SkyDrive. You can get a free Outlook.com account dedicated to downloading your films. You get 7 GB free, so that's plenty of room for uploading large files. You can email a link to the film to anybody you want, so they can download it straight from your skydrive account.

You can do the same thing with Google Drive as with Microsoft Skydrive and both are free unless you need more space. Except Google Drive gives you 15 GB for free.

And the beauty of Microsoft Skydrive and Google Drive is that they're great for backing up your files. Plus you can all the free accounts you want and you can access them from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection or you can download Skydrive and Google drive to your computers to synchronize your files with your online accounts. I have a lot of files backup on both of them using multiple accounts. All of it free unless you need to pay for more space, but 7 GB for Skydrive and 15 GB for Google drive should be enough for now. That's one account. Now get multiple accounts. You got yourself a lot of space.

www.Dropbox.com - Starts at 2-Gigabytes, but you can get more by 'Sharing' the link with yourCcontacts, up to 18-GB if needed, by a third-party service. Also www.Box.com has been used for large files. Both free... :-)
