SoundSoap Tips

I have SoundSoap 2.4 that I will be using as a plug-in with Peak Pro Six. I will be using it to clean up an aiff dialog/foley file. The file has many problems, including: Urban (outside) white noise (when the dialog is boosted, it's like a day at the beach) The composition of the white noise changes with each scene * Various hums and indoor noises * Occasional loud crackling . . . like someone was stepping on a mic cable. * Lots of variation in mic placement/distance . . . within a scene Additionally: There are several pre-recorded musical cues that seem to have been mastered/optimized for "AM radio" play. That is, they are well-mixed, but there is a little too much compression, not enough highs and lows, volume is maxed out to the point that there is some subtle clipping on high, sustained vocals or woodwinds. I am a composer but have never had to deal with these issues before and I'm doing this as a favor for someone who currently has no other options. I am hoping that I can accomplish a lot with SoundSoap, and then will apply EQ and some moderate compression for overall clarity. I would appreciate any useful knowledge anyone might have on: * Attacking a 44 minute file with problems in each scene/camera-angle change. * Best order of operation with SoundSoap. * Decompressing" premastered music. * Anything that you might think is helpful. Thanks Much - Nick
