Rules have never affected my creativity. I can be creative within the rules. I find that sense of joy and magic and possibility within the rules.

yes, it is a bit like playing the blues. 3 chords, one or two scales but within that context you can have such freedom to express yourself, to the extent that some players are recognizable within a few bars of music.

Of course you wouldn't want to limit yourself to just " the blues" Joe, I was trying to say that sometimes restricted means or forms accentuate a distinctive voice. Yes Chad, I agree - the codes and conventions of genre dictate the content of a movie to a large extent. Thanks to you both for your input.
