Hi all, I need to be educated on some things as a well established Caribbean writer. I live and write from my home country in Jamaica and I have several polished full length feature scripts that have done well in competitions, but I just can't seem to get that big break that we all dream about. I have researched, bought the books, prayed and hope daily...not to mention the money spent on entering competitions, paying for judge feedback, posting on sites like inktip.com....paying for critiques, and getting the query letter, synopsis and loglines just write, etc. It seems to me that none of this actually puts the script anywhere close to the hands of a real agent or producer. The websites all say they do not accept unsolicited scripts. Google search says do not trust agents. I am curious to hear your stories and experiences as it relates to this. Blessings to you, Cleveland O. McLeish www.christianplaywright.org
Interesting that in your Google search you found that should not trust agents. Or do you mean a Google search cautioned you that there are some agents not to be trusted? Like any "agent" who asks for money up front.

Hi Cleveland, There are good agents and then there are 'the others.' You can go to WGA.org and in the search box, type in "Guild Signatory Agents" and up will pop a list of agents you can query. It's a good place to start. You do not have to be a member of the WGA to access this list and other great information through the site -- take advantage of it! One thing I've learned through working with agents is that usually, you can't just give them your script then sit back and wait for the money and offers to come in. You need to work hard to help your agent -- trolling the waters for possible companies looking for your type of script. Hope this helps... good luck!
