Swearwords in loglines

Can we use the F word in loglines and still be respected.

Sean Farrington

I think it depends on the reader. Just like any marketing, consider audience. And, I'd also consider whether the word is crucial to story, or just shock-value. That said, you still may find value in shock...

Danny Manus

Agree. It's not a total turn off, if the story and tone calls for it. Like, saying "Joe blow, a total fuck-up" would be fine. But saying "After Joe fucks Sally..." would probably NOT be a good idea. If you're writing a r-rated adult comedy, then sure, maybe. If it's something else, probably not.

Harry Johnquest

How can you make your log line more effective and not eff it up.?

Heather Pierson

It's more along the lines of the former vs the latter. The word itself definitely captures attention, and isn't that what a logline is all about? It would probably narrow the audience. On a lighter note; "When Harry Fucked Sally" would probably be a great name for a porn film.

William Martell

My friend's manager added the F word to her title before sending it out... and it worked. It's all depends on the tone and subject of the story. That's why I'm using the F word 3 times in my Disney like animated story logline...

Heather Pierson

haha William. Can't wait to hear the soundtrack.
