I keep seeing postings like this on Craigslist (I know, it's Craigslist, but even so): http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cwg/4445532399.html Essentially, they need someone to chop a couple of short videos together, and they need it done in a couple of days, and they need someone who's really a PRO (they use that construct a lot), and the job pays $100 a day. I guess what I'm wondering is, if you're a pro, what's a reasonable day rate? I know what the ACE demands for its members, but for those of us not in that rarefied air - what's acceptable?
I would do it just for the airfare..A paid holiday, edit a few short video and have the flight paid for...Why not??
Well I wish Craig's list was called Frank's list so I can refer to it as "F" list instead of "c" list... The Dregs of society are over there... I do not even bother, nor would I tell one of their regulars about 32. Typical Ad: $5000 a day for 2 hours worth of work....Ha sure. Not even Homegrown or Vivid pays that unless you are somebody. Or my favorite, (sarcasm) Wanted someone with a BA in computer science and preferably a BFA and knows Adobe Master suite. Part time 10.00 an hour. Or worse Use your car and gas with a 10,000 camera to write, shoot, edit a commercial for 250.00. The place is a joke, do yourself a favor, DO NOT bother. Pretty soon only pond scum will be posting for one another over there.
As a freelance editor for the last 10 years or so, I can say that the freelance day rate really depends on if you really want the job or not. That is the only definite answer you could have. If you are a junior studio editor in LA, you could start at $15-25/hr. Freelance, I have gone from a gig that paid $65/hr on my own gear straight to a $500.00 flat rate on gear at my studio. There is no set price unless you are on payroll.
