I am interested in obtaining a book-to film/TV adaptation and I thought I had a pretty good pitch (I was wrong), BUT after taking Joey's coaching session , I revamped my pitch, submitted it, and got not one, but TWO REQUESTS for my full MS. I'm still astounded. His advice was spot on and even better, he has been available to answer my additional questions since. If your pitches have not been successful, I highly recommend signing up for his pitch advice session. Really. Do it. It made all the difference in the world for my pitch. And Stage 32 offers such amazing pitching opportunities with execs that would not ordinarily be accessible to writers. A huge thanks both to Joey and to Stage 32!

Dianne what is a "full MS"?

Hi William, MS is the abbreviation for "Manuscript". I am not a screenwriter, but a novelist, therefore when I am pitching, I am offering my manuscript of a completed novel, instead of a screenplay of it,, for the exec's consideration. And breaking news - I have had a THIRD request to see my manuscript. Doin' my happy dance.... :-D

That's so great. Joey is really good w/pitches. I adapted a novel RUTHIE BLACK to screenplay and it was a lot of fun. But a challenge as it was all 1st person narration.

Hello Diane. I am a novelist like you. Can you tell me what 'Happy Writers" is?

Hi Dianne. I'm in the same boat. I'm a writer and recently did a pitch through one of Joey's sessions and didn't make a good impression for my great story. I have decided to take one of the coaching sessions. which one did you take?

Joe, I took his "Pitch Prep"Session ($50) which is one of the options listed when you are signing up to do a pitch. You can sign up for his session WITHOUT signing up for the official pitch at that time. That option is listed in its own box just beneath the "Choose your time" drop down menu on the right hand side of the signup pitch page. Joey then emailed me to decide on a mutually agreeable time to chat by phone. At the time of the phone call, he had a copy of one of my submitted pitches and we went through it, point by point. He asked a lot of questions with regards to my story line and helped me define the points that would stand out in a pitch. His suggestions really tightened it up.

Eva, the Happy Writers is a company that Stage 32 recently acquired. Joey Tuccio is its Founder. It's available for all Stage 32 members here: http://www.stage32.com/happy-writers

And since we are talking successful pitching on this thread I have two other high recommends for interested members: 1. Heather Hale - is a stage 32 member and producer who gives webinars on Stage 32 WRT screenwriting and pitching. Check out her sessions. VERY worthwhile. I took two of them; and 2. Stephanie Palmer - also a Stage 32 member who specializes as a pitch consultant. I began with the info in Stephanie's free ebooks, and eventually signed up for her course which consists of several ebooks and videos on how to successfully pitch. Extremely thorough and well laid out material. Both of these women are very approachable and generous with sharing their knowledge with those of us just learning.

Jackie, this is one of the best things about Stage 32 - we can all help each other and encourage each other in achieving our goals.
Dianne, first off, congratulations. Quite an accomplishment getting those requests. But, I also think it's fantastic that you kept an open mind and listened to Joey's advice. As writers we become so precious about our work. It's a fatal mistake. Now here's to the next steps! Wishing you nothing but the best. Finally, thank you so very much for the kind words regarding Stage 32 and for sharing your experiences. I have no doubt you have helped inspire countless others by doing so! Cheers!

Richard, I am excited to report that I now have had three requests for my MS, thanks to the pitch sessions. But besides the amazing opportunity to pitch, Stage 32 provides webinars such as those offered by Heather Hale,( her advice is absolutely hand-down great) and networking opportunities besides that. These things just wouldn't be available to a person otherwise. I am the quiet/shy kind of member who has been lurking around in the background, reading, watching and learning over the past couple of years, and now I have been recommending Stage 32 to several of my peers. Success is within reach of all Stage 32 members!

Thank you so much for asking, Dianne! We're still working the foreign territories for theatrical distribution but the Absolute Killers DVD is available for pre-orders now at Best Buy (http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=25308763#) and will be available at Walmart nationwide by 8/9. Here's the trailer: http://www.tricoastworldwide.com/absolutekiller. For an $850K film ;-) I'd say that's not bad. ;-) Our goal is to break that $850K mark. It'd be great to see it get over a million - and be fantab to near $3M. We'll see! ;-) Thank you! If it gains enough traction, hoping that'll parlay to the next one! ;-)
Heather, I really enjoyed the trailer and will definitely buy a copy of the movie. I see Best Buys anticipated date to supply preorders is August 19th, and you say Walmart is August 9th. Is there an advantage to you (sales ranking etc) for purchases made at either business?
You are so sweet, Dianne! ;-) Whatever's easiest for you! ;-)
