10 things that annoy Casting Directors: Secrets from an intern

When actors go into an audition we often obsess about making our performance in that room perfect. We pay hundreds of dollars for classes specifically on how to audition yet one thing we rarely think about is our behavior at the audition. As an actor who has interned for casting offices, I’ve watched as fellow actors ruin their chances at a job before even showing their talent. So I’m sharing with you the top 10 things you should avoid doing while at an audition. Weighing in on the subject are the casting directors Nadette Stasa who free-lances with many offices, Ania Eisenberg of House Casting, and Tom O’hare of Tempest Casting. 1) “I’m here for a casting…?” - See more at: http://www.nycastings.com/dmxreadyv2/blogmanager/v3_blogmanager.asp?post...

What an excellent article!

Thanks for sharing Aaron. Makes total sense. It's good to do a little research about the product or project while you patiently wait. And if you want to, why not fill out a thank you card and mail it on your way out. Courtesy is awesome! :)

Terrific article. I interned once when I was in Los Angeles but I highly recommend it to actors who want to understand the casting challenge from the other side of the camera. When I interned for Megan Foley, I think we saw about half those examples in one day. Another article could be written about what not to do once the audition starts.

As a 14 yr "veteran" of the Atlanta market, I wanted to help other actors not make those casting room mistakes. My web series, Becky & Barry, was initially created as an educational tool. This is an early episode from Season 1, where we used a real casting director to basically play himself: http://blip.tv/beckyandbarry/episode-103-the-lotto-5598896 Brian (the casting director) says that much worse things happen in the real world. It's sad to think there are actors - WITH AGENCY REPRESENTATION - that are being so unprofessional or unprepared.
