Introduce Yourself : Better Late Than Abducted By Aliens... by Derek Ladd

Better Late Than Abducted By Aliens...

...because aliens can be so inconsiderate and all. Especially the ones from Ganymede. Anyway, hello everyone. I got a tip on this great site through the PAGE Awards (I was a WINNER last year -- Woo-hoo!) and signed up last week. I've been writing forever (shorts, novels, essays, angry letters to the DMV...) and discovered screenwriting in 2004. I also edit screenplays and do structure analyses on the side. Fun stuff. My hope is to meet some interesting like-minded artists here for witty banter and possible collaboration. In addition to writing I am delving into producing, directing and editing my own work. There's some stuff on Vimeo but it's not great, I warn you. Baby steps, as it were. But I did start walking at 9 months (true story) so I expect to create beautiful, exciting and sometimes horrifying works of art in the coming months and years. I look forward to meeting, connecting and possibly collaborating with many odd, creative folks like me. ;-D

Hi Derek! I also recently found Stage 32 from the PAGE Awards. Congrats on winning last year, that's fantastic! I've been submitting off and on for a few years now, and my scripts are getting better, but not quite winning material yet. Although, I'm excited to send them my latest script for next year's contest. Like you said, baby steps!

@Aimee - Danka! A couple of books that really helped me are 'Writing Screenplays That Sell' by Michael Hauge and 'Your Screenplay Sucks! 100 Ways To Make It Great' by William M. Akers. As a screenplay editor and story analyst I have to be on top of my game at all times. I built a free story building template to help writers organize their ideas (it's an Excel workbook). Let me know if you'd like a copy. ;-)

Hi, Alle. Yes, I've met them. They're not as inconsiderate at the ones from Triton but pretty close. And they smell like licorice for some reason.

Licorice you say... and all these years I thought aliens smelled more like bubble gum. Huh. Thanks for the tip on the books. I found Blake Snyder's "Save the Cat" to be a grat read and super helpful.
