Screenwriting : Very different, but all good! by Gav Elias

Very different, but all good!

Last night I watched 3 newly released films back to back. I watched How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Fault in Our Stars and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I was amazed that all 3 gave me spine tingling moments, which I put down to the screenwriting, especially for the animated film. However, The Fault in Our Stars was a true lesson in how to draw emotion out of the audience as the last 20-30 minutes was muffled by the blubbing sounds of the audience. Loved how the writing created the emotion in all 3 films and drew the audience in.

I agree, Gav -- it's so great when the emotion on the page translates to the final product. I know in the case of HTTYD2, Dean Deblois, the director and writer, is a fantastic storyteller. I wish he'd do some live action so his talents could be appreciated by more.
