I usually call myself a writer/creator or a writer/filmmaker, but this summer I've been asked to DP two indie projects 'Fraternal Nightmares' & 'Rapacious' (both on Facebook). While I've always considered myself as a writer first, I know I need to move to directing my own work. Both projects are important for learning the craft and meeting some very talented people who I may work with in years to come. Both projects are being filmed in the Chicago, Rockford, Milwaukee area. I think you're on the right track by taking on those jobs. Writers need to think like producers, like directors, and like the audience, so your upcoming experiences ought to benefit you as a writer, at the very least.
