Graphic Design exploding head

Hi guys I'm an MFA student and I'm going to shoot a shortfilm about a graphic designer who becomes too creative and his body start to become designs. I have for references this videos https://vimeo.com/100872038 https://vimeo.com/41551766 I do work with After effects, not with 3d modeling. Any suggestions? With After Effects I was able to do this just as a quick test, is not perfect, that's why I'm asking your help http://i59.tinypic.com/29yh6ky.png Also I would like to create a hole in the body of the actor, I guess that with 3d modeling and tracking the camera this could be possible. I had the video for the reference, But I cannot find it. In the video, the holes extend through his body and even split the pieces of the body very slowly. Yes, in fact, the promo image that I did, this one http://oi59.tinypic.com/29yh6ky.jpg I did it in after effects But I'm pretty sure that in the references they use something else. What I really would like to achieve is holes in the body expanding, unfortunately I cannot find the reference.
