American Playwrights

Hey Guys, (I'm new to Stage 32 so if this is the wrong section please forgive my ignorance) I'm trying to broaden my horizons and have just started to get into American Theatre. I was hoping I could get a bit of help, can anyone recommend some good American plays featuring some interesting young characters (anything involving teens-late 20's)? Or even better some good American playwrights ? So far I'm just working through Arthur Miller and August Wilson (Libraries near me are somewhat limited). Thanks in advance.

Alexandre - great post. You should definitely network with Kimberly Faye Greenberg, Cynthia White and Alexander Carney on here to help you with your questions.

Robert Matson

Read some Tennessee Williams, Tony Kushner, Edward Albee, Eugene O'Neill. For young and teen characters- there's an older play called The Runaways (not sure of the playwright's name), Picnic- William Inge. This is just from the top of my head but there's more out there.

thanks Julie I shall definitely get in touch. Awesome thanks for the tip Robert really appreciate it. Been trying to find some good plays for a while little annoying more plays arnt available on Kindle

Richard Toscan

Available on Kindle and definitely worth your reading: Tennessee Williams: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof [I think this is his best play, though I may be stoned for saying that]; Edward Albee: especially Death of Bessie Smith and The American Dream which established his reputation along with Zoo Story. Albee's masterpiece is Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (available on Kindle).
