Nothing better than chatting with other creative minds!

Hey there Stage 32 community (and what an awesome group it is). My name is Jim Riggen, originally from Vermont, now working in Minneapolis, MN (traded in the cold weather for...colder weather...outstanding). Writing is not a full time endeavor just yet, but I'm certainly hoping to make it there. I am an author and I have just wrapped up adapting my first novel into an original miniseries. I have nothing but respect for everyone involved in the creative/visual arts and it's an honor to be able to rub elbows with others who share the passion. How have people found the site so far? Any "musts" as far as certain aspects to check out on the Stage 32 website?

Amber Lucille Brown

I agree, there is nothing better than chatting with other creative minds. I learn so much from everyone. It's nice to meet you.

James Riggen

Nice to meet you too. Where you from Amber? What kind of screenwriting do you do?

Amber Lucille Brown

I am from Camden, Maine. I just finished a screenplay entitled, "The Scarlet Violin." I am also writing a young adult novel and a screenplay that is more of a haunting. I live and breathe screenplays. I can't even watch a movie without writing the screens in my head. What about you, what genre do you prefer to write?

Amber Lucille Brown

I must have stated that wrong. I don't re-write them, I try to figure out how they must have written them on the page.

Hello Amber Do not stifle your imagination. Rewrite in your head, redo in a doodle, what would it be like if it had a different sound track, what would make it a comedy or horror show. Build your creative abilities to their max. Imagination and creativity create new things. New things make life interesting. How is it disrespecting anyone or anything to reimagine or deconstruct a movie in the privacy of your own lounge? It shows an interest in the structure and mechanics of the screenplay is all. I often rewrite clunky movie dialogue in my head whilst watching. It's all about trying to understand what works and what doesn't and why.

CJ Walley

Very healthy to always be rewriting in my opinion. I like rewriting scenes and dialogue in my head. It's also always particularly satisfying when you predict the next line.

Amber Lucille Brown

That is fun CJ.

James Riggen

At the end of the day, it's the ongoing practice of making yourself a better writer. It's done by eating, drinking, and living to write. Letting other pieces inspire you, and hopefully having your pieces inspire others. Hmmm, I think this series of posts has just inspired me...the system works!

Welcome aboard, James. Amber, I know exactly what you mean. When I first got into the process of writing screenplays, watching movies became a new experience. Scenes I was watching would appear in my head in written format. It was as though I was visualising how that scene was written on paper. That was very exciting.

Amber Lucille Brown

I love when scenes appear in my head as written format. Your right, it is very exciting.
