Video editors are needed for 2015 ecotourism documentaries. NANCY SUE PEARLMAN , BUSINESS (310) 559-9160, CELL (213) 705-4992 ECNP@aol.com; WWW.NANCYPEARLMAN.NET, www.ecoprojects.org DECEMBER 2014 SEASON’S GREETINGS To wish you Happy Holidays, I have chosen again to honor my parents by using some of the letterhead that my mother designed. (this letterhead was sent in the print format by postal mail) Both Mom and Dad were creative people in their different ways. As I sort through my sixty-six years of memories with them, I also think of the great friends and family members that stayed in touch. The biggest accomplishment for this year was in the first part of January when I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, East Africa. Called 'The Top of Africa” by the locals, Mt. Kilimanjaro is 19,336 feet high. I videoed my climb and a wildlife safari in Tarangarie National Park. Both programs, along with others, are now on my YouTube Channel: ECONEWS with Nancy Pearlman. I also visited fifty orphans that I help in Kenya; that documentary will be done next year. Other travels followed. I flew to Malaysia in April to see one of the oldest living rainforests in the world, Taman Nagara, as well to stay at the greenest ecological resort in the country, the Franjipani in Langkawi. Check out my documentaries or ask for a dvd. In the month of May, I went to Florida, USA, to video the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine, and the largest city (by land area), Jacksonville. In the end of June and July, I again went with my folk dance company to Estonia to do a documentary of their participation in the UNESCO Song and Dance Festival held every five years. Instead of videoing the event, I substituted for a dancer and performed in a soccer field with 8,000 other dancers. In August, I traveled to Azerbaijan. On my past visit, Azerbaijan was part of the Soviet Union. and now it is an independent nation. The cultural and natural history in the Caucasus Mountains and on the Caspian Sea was fascinating and will be featured in my television programs and radio shows. We will also present the Christian and Jewish minority communities in this secular Muslim country. Three short trips rounded out my travels. My first cousin, once removed, got married in September in Colorado so that was a short weekend getaway. Then In October I performed in an Octoberfest in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. In July and in December I went to Oakland, California, for meetings of The Reuse People, a non-profit organization for which I now serve on the Board. Staying at the cabin in Idyllwild is my major place for relaxation, contemplation, hiking, reading, and writing. The new roof keeps the rain out. I go every month. My elected position as Trustee for the Los Angeles Community College District still provides challenges and opportunities. I am not the typical politician (I consider myself trustworthy, honest, and transparent) but there is a place to have environmentalists and academics like myself in office. It is hard to win elections, especially when outspent 24-1 as last time, so contributions are welcome. The volunteer activities for Educational Communications are overwhelming. A new weekly Environmental Directions radio show each week, twelve new ECONEWS shows a year, and six Compendium Newsletters take time and effort. Then there are the other projects: Ecology Center of Southern California, Environmental Resources Library, Earth Cultures, and Humanity and the Planet. If you donate to any charity, please consider a tax-deductible contribution to my nonprofit. We are an all-volunteer organization that has existed since 1957 and are doing an incredible amount of good work on a near-zero budget. Please give to my group where you know someone, me, who is helping. Remember, December is the giving month. Still bringing me pleasure as I pet and stroke him is my cat Roy. We have finally adopted our regular routine together. While he is the first cat that I have had that does not go to sleep with me, he wakes me everyday at six o’clock and insists on being in whatever room I am working in. Needless to say, I have books to write, shows to produce, boxes to sort, archival material to get in order, and so many other things to do and see. There are plenty of events to go to together so please stay in touch by calling, writing, or emailing. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
