I personally have none of the above, despite having worked as a paid actress for three years now. My question is, how does one go about finding an agent, someone to help mould the shape of your career. Does the person who represents you have to be from or in the same country as you? I hope to hear plenty of feedback from you guys ♥
Thank you Patrick!

Expand commentSince you are in Kenya, any advise I give you about the US Agent market would be pointless. There is one thing I can tell you, that is probably applicable to any market. By far the best way to get an agent. And this is how I found mine, is by personnel referral. IF you are a working actress, and you say you are. Then, you know lots of people in the business in your area. Don't be afraid to A) let your professional colleagues know you are "seeking representation" and B) Just ask them point blank. "Do you know a good agent?" You will be surprised how well this works. The worst thing they can say is "I dunno"and the best thing is "Yeah, I know a couple, let me introduce you" It's really that simple. I applied this simple plan to find my own agent, and I nailed one in less then 3 months. Good luck. Oh, and the short answer is "yes" the agent should be from the same market you are in.

You can use this to market yourself, send to agents in your area and ask if they are accepting new clients. If they see you are active and pro-active promoting yourself, it can go a long way. And a really good agent anywhere should have some contacts with major markets like - NY or LA. But you'd have to travel on your own dime if you landed an audition with no kind of guarantee.
