I am the true story actor, Author of the book: With Edwards in the Governor's Mansion:From Angola to Free Man, and now, after digging in my closet, I came out with an old hat I found. Trying on the hat in the mirror I saw writing on the front that says, "Indie-Filmmaker." I've adapted my book into a screenplay. 12 Years A Slave "Can't touch this!" The title of my film is (6-9-3-8 / ... when Good Kids Fight Back!) It's a true story of a 17 year old African-American football and track star in Louisiana who is about to graduate high school and go to college on a scholarship, but is taken into custody by the Louisiana Criminal Justice System and sentenced to serve the rest of his Natural Life in the bloodiest Penitentiary in America, Angola WITHOUT BEING CONVICTED, LITERALLY! The main character, "Saint" turns Angola Penitentiary into a Peni'Versity, becomes an Inmate Lawyer, Boxing Champ, wins his case in Federal Court and graduates Angola as he's transferred to the Governor's Mansion where he serves as a Butler in the day and underground boxer at night for the governor and the elite. Saint graduates with his Master's Degree, the Gold Seal Pardon and Eternal Freedom. As my African fight trainer in Angola would tell me, "Bali shaba laini kulima." Wish me well, because that means, getting this film made will be "... a long row to hoe." -Saint!- That's ME! :-)
