I'm originally from Tampa Bay, so it warmed my heart to hear that's where you got your big break. Thanks for sharing and giving us newbies some "food for thought".

Excellent. There's nothing like getting paid to do what you love.
I'm about to finish just the first rough draft of a feature film idea I've been sitting on for 7 years.. It's a sci/fi family feature film remake "The Phantom Tollbooth". I just thought if I was going to go big, I might as well stick with a story I really like. A producer I know says everybody goes through the same thing. They think they're first idea is great, but it stinks. It's usually a few scripts down the road that works out for them. This one is almost like a practice run or something. I hope I can pick up steam, as I go along.
No, I'm just doing this for fun and to learn the process. There is someone doing it for profit though on imdb.com.
Remember you are always getting better. My first script was great. Until I wrote my second script. Then I saw how thin my idea was. How it drifted and how it was never really going to make a great movie. You will develop the eye for a great story.
I remember I was in that same position 10 years ago. I sat on my first script and it took me 10 years to step out and make it a reality. Once I made the decision to make it come to life is when I star...

Once I made the decision to make it come to life is when I started building steam. After I held my first casting call then it hit me. So don't let it gather more dust. Light a fire to it and you will be amazed what can happen.

College Conservatory of Film and Dramatic Arts with an Associate of Applied Arts degree in Motion Picture Production. I'm currently working on a few sci fi features, a short, and a reality TV show teleplay. I'm still learning the fine art of my craft, but I'm sure the more I write outlines the easier they will become (I hope). In the meantime, I'm looking for opportunities to work as a production assistant in the Dallas Fort Worth area. I'm considering taking up acting, not only to improve my writing, but to also keep contact with the film community here in Dallas. It's not the same working on my own without creative people to bounce ideas off of. I'm a team player with some experience working on short films with other students. I'm very excited to find other creatives to mingle and possibly work with in the near future.
Great post, Jesse. Be sure to give our Screenwriting section of the Lounge a look. It's one of our busiest and the collection of talent there is 2nd to none.

Hey Kevin. Love your idea. Make the audience part of the story is a stroke of genius. I wish I could read one of your scripts.
You had me hooked with your thread title, Kevin. Dig your style. You're already an asset to this community.
Greetings, my name is Brandon Montgomery and I have written 3-feature length screenplays. One has been recommended and the others are in the rewriting process. I look forward to connecting with many of you and seeing how best we can help each other succeed.
It took me less than a year. I graduated in May 2013 with a MFA. Been writing consistently ever since.
Features seem so large. It's encouraging to hear your timing.
They can be, but once you create your characters, do a treatment, the writing goes pretty smoothly. I love the rewriting process.
I never knew there were so many ways to say no. I like the comment about aggression and creativity. Let's hear more about that!
