This was really helpful and a much needed reminder for me. I’m an introvert and a procrastinator, always telling myself that I need to learn this, research this, refine this before I take action, and often I don’t end up taking action because I’m too scared of failure and of putting myself out there and leaving my comfort zone.

Nice blog! You're right sooner or later a director or should I say filmmaker has to find a way to get a feature film made. Because they need the experience. What I've always done is try to conduct all of the projects that I've done like they were a feature film, so that when a bigger project comes along I already have the knowledge and the self confidence to know that I can pull it of. Right now I'm trying to source funding for my first comedy future and after some time there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. But it's still to early to see, but until then I can still make short films, music videos and commercials.

Glad I came across this Sean. Easy and simple are so very different. But we complicate it when it’s just head down and do the work. Such a good reminder.

Great advice/reminder, Sean! The greatest movie idea ever is nothing if a writer doesn't put in the work to write it (or pitch the idea if the writer is at the level where they can pitch ideas without writing the scripts -- but then again, that writer will still need to write the ideas into treatments, which is action). Well, that was inspiring. Spending the last 4 years as a sales agent for 5 films with minimum to zero sells and starting to produce a reality show which is still pretty much in preproduction after 3 years, I assumed I failed terribly. reading the story, might just have changed my perspective. looking back, not fooling myself, but take them all in as valuable experiences. thank you. (this is the power of networking of course)

In our writing group, we celebrate every rejection. It means you put your work out there. Writing (and the screen industry, too) are hard industries. Only a tiny, tiny percentage of our work ever makes it to an audience, and only a tiny, tiny percentage of that gets wide acclaim. It's only by connecting with our writing spirit that we can continue to produce. That dialogue, with our writing spirit, is the affirmation we need to keep going. Your writing spirit carried you on.
