I would like to try to get a meetup going. Would there be anyone interested in forming one somewhere in Manhattan? Lets try to make it happen in the Spring!

Aloha Xan......thanks for stopping by.....have a God weekend......blessings......:)
I have not got anything yet but it's okay I'm sure something will come around
Same here. I haven't gotten anything since the end of February. I'm a member of SAG-AFTRA and would like to see more. Are you a member? How long have you been in this business?
Good afternoon i've been a member for I think two years now
I wonder what it is these CDs are looking for in portraying certain characters when they say Male/female age 18-199, X Character. It is so frustrating. Is it the site being used? What sites are worth using for the price you pay?
I've heard the answer that it depends on where you are which site is more preferred by local or regional CD's... but I too am wondering how much am I expected to be paying out per month just for a sin...
Expand commentI've heard the answer that it depends on where you are which site is more preferred by local or regional CD's... but I too am wondering how much am I expected to be paying out per month just for a single photo and page of info (resume) on me? It feels so scammy! My agency sends me an email every month reminding me my profile is "not active" and visible to try to FOMO me into paying $150 year for a "full" listing. Shouldn't my agency at least invest a tiny bit of bandwidth on making me publicly visible? It feels like instead of an agency they are bridge trolls trying to collect a fee on just about anything while as a non-union talent, I'm not really making enough to even file income taxes here so I'm wondering why in addition to double dipping 20% agency fees they are now a SAG franchised agency which I would assume means their methods are considered normal and respectable industry standards? I've yet to even see the benefit of representation since the only booking I've got through them I applied to the CD myself as I'm on her mailing list... SORRY to hijack your feed! Just realized... back to PAY PER LISTING AND/OR PER SUBMISSION CASTING WEBSITES ~ anybody? please ;) thnx

Expand commentI've seen those $150/year and $40/month for another. I don't chance those. I think they just want the money. I was with one in NYC that was $40/month and the average projects I got were 3 per month while a couple people I knew who used it, and probably still do, get 18-20 days for projects per month. I'm part of casting networks, which is only $11/month. It's a good site for bg mostly, but the agencies that use it, once you go SAG, they are more selective and I think expect better, higher quality, updated pictures. It's just can drive you crazy because you put all this time and money into it, and sometimes it feels like it doesn't pay off.

So if you do your do diligence you can find and submit for free. For theater, you can sign up with Broadway world and they will email you casting notices for all over the country for free. Also, anything you do pay is tax deductible provided you make over $5000. So keep all receipts
Hey iris, thanks so much for connecting. I've been doing some work as well as studying under my acting coach I recently put together a monologue and am in the process of putting up more videos. I have an iMDB page as well as a video on YouTube under Xan Aspero. Hope we can do some networking in the near future!
Good for you, Xan. Let's do that. Greetings to new York! www.imdb.me/iriskarina

Hi, I meant to finish. I've been studying under an acting coach as well as putting videos and a reel together. I have a video on YouTube under my name Xan Aspero Character Monologue if interested. Hope we can do some networking in the near future.
Hey everyone!! It's been a while. I've been taking acting lessons and I put together a monologue. I'm looking for auditions now. Just wondering if anyone has ideas or suggestions of where to look in NYC??
Casting Networks and Actors Access
Hi Dain. Thank you very much for the connection. I have been working on some projects in documentaries and drama. I've really enjoyed it. I'm trying to get footage for a reel and I really would like to make my way out to LA by early 2016.
Good plan, and wishing you all the best.
We should get an NYC Meetup going for June. Anyone available for June 10-12, 2015? Let's try to make it happen now that the weather is better and summer is approaching.
Hey Xan, I'm in. I'm a Dialect Coach and I also organize a video production Meetup in NYC. Always happy to collaborate
Sounds awesome Jordan! Great to connect! I would really like to meet you. I know a number of dialects myself. Hope we can talk further soon. Let's do it.
HELLO GUYS!!! UPCOMING MUSIC PRODUCER AND ACTRESS ,RIGHT HERE!!!:)HOPE TO NETWORK WITH SOMEONE HERE:)
Hey Gary. Thanks for the connection! Great to meet you! It would be great if u could come to a meetup I'm trying to put together for June 10-12, 2015.
Thanks Xan
I am thinking about putting videos of myself and various talents on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, things like that. Is that a good route to go for getting the word out and advertising or displaying talents?
Hi Abigail. Thanks for the connection. I've been in the industry for 2 years now. It's been crazy, activity fluctuates, it's been mostly BG which I so want to get out of or do less. I'm trying to find the direction I want to go.
BG?
BackGround work
Ah. Well it does give you the opportunity to network and learn the lingo and the business. Keep at it.
I am curious about using YouTube on the Internet as a source to get the word out to directors, producers etc with our talents?? Do they go on there or any particular sites to see the videos?
Now that I have become Screen Actors Guild eligible, what are the websites with the most opportunity? Is it best to have an agent? Do you pay them?? I really want to do this, but I want to do it right.

Due to that and it being my 1st full winter doing it alone, it has been do arduous and the jobs limited, as has April so far. When does it pick up? Is it worth staying in the bg? I mean, I like it, but it can be such a pain and it seems like the casting agencies are so particular. Could I be doing something wrong? Is there another avenue to take pursuing this field? It's so frustrating and sometime discouraging. If it's a passion though, I guess you gotta live it.

Expand commentHello Xan, ActorsAccess is what majority of actors use to find non-union jobs. You can submit yourself for auditions. This is a great way to get started and build credibility and comfort on set/on stage. However, those are still mostly non-union gigs that lean towards students and indies. To find bigger projects you need access to the agent breakdown or CastingAbout (which tells you what is casting and who is casting it). It's a very difficult process to get into these rooms. I would say pick one or two shows that you know you are ABSOLUTELY right for and find a way to build a relationship with the casting director who casts it. Be of service, get them to like you as a person, then blow them out of the water with your skills when the right opportunity comes along. Also, patience, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Find a way to keep a balanced happy life regardless of whats happening professionally. You only get one! Things will come your way when you are happy, healthy, and pro-active. Best wishes!
All the above suggestions are excellent. There are also StarNow, Now Casting and Backstage, to name a few websites. It also depends what country you live in. All the best.
Thank you everyone. This is sooooo helpful. I will certainly move on it. I'll admit it's been so hard lately that I had questions in my mind whether I should continue pursuing it, but deep down inside, even though it's hard and the income has been short coming, I can't and won't give up.
