Is it a log line or is it rubbish?

Earlier I asked about log lines and what makes them good or bad. I read all of the comments and loved the feed back. After a bit of editing and brain storming I re wrote an old log line. Here is the results, but before I show it I just want to say please give your honest opinion no sugar coating. Th...

I like where John took this as a summary of your logline. I would only suggest thinking about an "in order to..." clause, otherwise the whole story sounds like drama for the sake of drama. Something a...

"In order to" doesn't imply stakes. I always feel like the best log lines give characters and the stakes of their particular situations.

Finding Inspiration

Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working. ~ Pablo Picasso

Love that line, Vince.

Frankie Lassut

Picasso was obviously on something that day ... actually, most days looking at his work.

Brian Shell

It's a poor workman who blames his tools. Simple as that... mater of fact.

Vince Tuckwood

Nice - I climbed in my car for a 10-minute drive home, challenging myself to come up with an idea for a short film and to write first draft before end of the day. Idea came quickly and drafting even more so - idea to completed 1st draft screenplay in 3 hours - this is why I love writing!

Vince Tuckwood

What? That thing I saw that one time that... No, wait... That was the other thing, wasn't it? Nice to meet you.

Vince Tuckwood

The redraft of Inventing Kenny has been going really well - very, very close to done (for now :-)

Subject-specific writing

How would you go about writing a screenplay about a very specialised subject if you're not familiar with it? Is research really enough? Because I watch a series like House or Suits and the jargon is really daunting sometimes.

Annelie Wendeberg

Hi Nick, I see it the other way around. My field of research needs the entertainment industry to be better understood by non-scientists. A main reason why I never charged for science consultations. Annelie

Jaclyn Abergas

I agree with Vince. Research is a good first step. But you need to get your hands dirty. Talk to the experts and, if possible, spend time with them in their element. Good luck!

While writing a piece of historical fiction set in the late 1940's, I was able to get in touch with my protagonist's octogenarian widow. She provided me with a wealth of information about my character...
