The Call - remade

About a month ago, I posted "The Call", a short movie I made with a sinister story.

Since then, I've updated it, reshot the film and changed the sounds in it, so basically, remade the whole thing.

This is now submitted to a specific competition.

The Rules:

Theme - Fear

Running time 1-4 minutes

I have a pitch session on Skype coming up, and I’d love to hear your advice! How do you prepare for a pitch, and what should you focus on during the session? Are there any key questions you think I should ask?

Looking forward to your insights!

Thanks!

You know a pitch worked if the pitchee asks questions. It means they are interested enough to get more insight into your project/script.

Script Idea/Scene Idea Exercise – ROOFTOP BAR

See if you can come up with a script idea or scene idea from this picture. You’re welcome to share what you come up with in the comments or keep it to yourself and use it for a project.

Hey, Billy Kwack. That'd be messed up. I can see that scene working in a Crime, Action, or Thriller movie.

I like it, Michael Dzurak. I thought about INDEPENDENCE DAY and CLOVERFIELD when I made this post. And where's the HALF-LIFE movie, Hollywood???

Do you need logline help? Comment below if you've got a comedy feature logline you're working on!

Hey friends! Today and tomorrow we’re doing a Comedy Feature logline help day. So if you have a logline for a comedy film script you’re working on, post it below in the comment thread! Myself and members of the community will be pitching in to give you a hand on punching it up and making it as great...

I think the logline needs to be shorter, Arthur Charpentier.

Best Screenwriting Software

Hello Fellow Screenwriters! What do you think is the best screenwriting software? Thanks for your feedback.

Pete Whiting

I use writerduet. Is it the best? who knows? But its not the software that gets you a deal! As long you find it user friendly and has the features you like then write.

Doug Nelson

These Zombie posts never die.

Benadict Kwamboka

I suggest you use writer duet.

There are also times when feedback on your script may create an obstacle by offering thoughts or suggestions which distract from your original story. There are also times when making changes suggested in feedback actually torpedo your script.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Oh, YES! This is especially true if the writer is struggling with formatting, but actually has a good story. Formatting issues or early drafts can drag down script notes through details that don't add...

By the way, you should mention the difference in how the WGA defines more than one writer on a script as either an "and" or a "&". Big difference financially.

Emily J

Very true maybe in another piece this is something we can cover, I know writing partners and WGA stuff is often covered in interviews with managers/agents

Jim Fisher

It’s simple. An “and” between two writers means each is paid as an individual writer. While, an “&” between two writers’ names means they are paid as one writer.

Jim Fisher

Step 1: create a Quick Pitch for your story. Those 5 sentences will tell you if you have the key elements necessary for writing a feature film script. This prevents you from discovering at page 40 you’re out of story.

Kristin Johnson

Collaboration and co-creation in novels absolutely can work if you are committed and share the same vision like Berkeley Johnson (no relation) and me in THE LAST MESSENGER..."Queen's Gambit" meets "Independence Day" meets "2001: A Space Odyssey". People co-write novels all the time because there is...

I don't find Lewis Ritter on IMDb as a screenwriter. Has he actually collaborated on a script that sold? If not, I think you should only post material from writers who experience the subject they profess to know about. Especially, if they are giving advice to other writers.

Was it a paying gig?

Yes!

Create a Quick Pitch before start writing

Discovered that if you can't describe the key elements necessary to create a 3 to 5 line Quick Pitch you have story problems already.

Eric M. Blake

For a while, I'd been proposing the "nutshell" definition of "High Concept" as: "A fresh, unique, and compelling story premise that can be easily summarized in a single sentence or two." Reading this, it seems I might need to re-think the "premise" part.... But at any rate, this is a great subject t...

Jim--HA... actually there is more than enough time for beg, mid, end :) If you write the premise line right. Most people dont' know how to do that... so they can't even wrap their heads around this......

Jeff, To your first paragraph, the reason behind my thinking of using a QP versus Premise is that it gives fewer points to which a producer can find something that doesn't appeal to them. But, I agree...
